The Ma & Pa #101
1937 Buick Special. 248 cubic inline 8-cylinder engine with a 3-speed manual.
The Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad acquired the car when it was five years old.
The Ma & Pa equipped the car with flanged wheels on the rear, a compressor, air brakes, and a sander. The front end was fitted with a 4-wheeled truck.
#101 was initially given the task of testing radio communication between locomotive crews and the dispatchers. The Ma & Pa took the lead in the use of in-cab radios and #101 was one of the first MOW cars equipped with one.
Astoundingly the car remained on the roster until 1972 when #101 was traded in for a Roadmaster.
Currently resides at the B&O Museum, Baltimore, MD

Would you believe, I drove past one of these on the highway last weekend. It was a lovely rich blue-green colour, beautifully restored, and out for a summer evening run were a husband and wife. My husband took photos of the car, and the couple laughing as I (who was driving) caught up and matched speed in order to get some snaps.
I was wondering what the make and model were, and now I know. Thank you. :)
