Some Jungle Emperor/Kimba redesigns I did for fun, taking inspiration from various incarnations for each character (ignore the shit quality of the scans)
Panja- his design has always been pretty basic but I heavily referenced him from the 2009 movie, with the mane pattern and lack of black ear tips to distinguish him from his son. He and Leo both have the black tail tip, neither of which are pictured here.
Eliza- I blended her original 1965 colors and her 2009 colors because I couldn’t decide which of the two I liked better, and I gave her her light underbelly from the 2009 film. She has the black ear tips instead so Leo got them from her.
Leona- Depending on certain media, she’s been depicted as Leo’s cousin, sister, or aunt, though if it were up to me I’d have her as Leo’s aunt. One because it raises fewer questions as to why Leo suddenly has an older sister when Panja and Eliza talked about Leo like he was their first child. Two because it gives more significance as to why she’s dedicated to preserving the previous white lion relics.
I’ve portrayed her as a leucistic lioness, as leucistic lions are rarely pure white in real life (they’re still sometimes called white lions though). Leona IS a legit white lioness in the 1989 series, but I wanted to distinguish her from the other white lions. So her colors are a blend of her 1965 and 1988 design, and the pointy ears and cheek fluff from her 1965 version.
Leo- I left his cub design practically unchanged, as his original design is already so iconic. Kept basically all his signature design tics- big black-tipped ears, blue eyes, hair tuft, and turned up cheek and chest fur. For his adult form I gave him his mane from the 1997 movie, though he retains the blue eyes.
Laiya- Again, didn’t change very much about her design either. Just decided to give her her brown eyes from the 1997 movie, whereas her ‘65 and ‘89 design had blue eyes.
Rune- Mostly took cues from his 1997 design, with the brown eyes and rounder hair tuft. I also gave him his mother’s cheek fluff and removed his black ear tips to make him less of a cub Leo clone.
Rukio- Fur and eye colors are also taken directly from the 1997 movie, where I liked her design far more than in the 1966 sequel series where she was just a Laiya clone. I emphasized her sharper hair in the tuft and cheeks to contrast her brother’s roundness/softness. I also gave Leo’s black ear tips to her instead of Rune. So my version of Rukio takes a lot after her father while Rune takes after his mother.
