Gold and currency exchangers always take a fee, though... best to exchange ONE for gold coins, one of those coins for the silver then the silver for copper, to see how the local currency is built.
Some currencies exchange three coins of each type you know! Pennies, talents and marks, or pennies dimes and quarters, of each metal.
It's important to know the local valuing system. Even if it costs ya, if you're so rich.
With what we know of the blank good exchange market though, they will be ecstatic to know gold is useful after all, lol. And if they can mine underwater with whatever that ride they got is, then goody good on them!
(But dont hire a ship to carry that iron. Hire guards for your iron, come back with as many more rides as you can. People who see that much gold can get rather covetous of the mines that wrought it...)

I've read a lot about how we use to barter for everything. Honestly, it didn't work out horrible. I wonder sometimes why the hell did we need money. Money is easily controlled by rich and powerful. It's harder to control bartering. I still like doing it myself. Trading service for a good cuts out the middlean
