Here is a special tool I have been working on for when I want to do my little metal detecting thing. This sort of hand shovel is made to have a chisel like edge at the tip of the tool so it can cut through roots around the area I am digging.
The tool is also rather large to collect more dirt from the surrounding area.

I did not really intend for this thing to look so ugly, but such is what it must be when I lost patience with it... The tang for the handle burnt off and I was actually going to have a rathe nice wooden handle to go with it.

What I did instead was just take a pipe and hammer it shut at one end just a tad and then fit it onto the remaining bit of tang I had left. I did want to try and forge weld it on so it would look a bit more flush and maybe I could have sawn off the excess of the pipe and widened it to act as a socket, but I was running low on fuel so I decided to just braze the pipe on in the forge.

This thing is very ugly and will live a very coarse life. I don't really mind.
