Having noticed I hadn't drawn any full fanart of The Raccoons this year I thought it would be fun to see what it would be like if they were still going in the 2010s. I think that regardless of the ever changing face of technology around them, the characters will still remain pretty much just as likable!
There are a few things that you will easily spot between the two pictures;
* In the 1980s Bert plays a real guitar. But today he'd probably have as much fun with something like 'Guitar Hero'.
* The Raccoons have an ordinary TV and a VCR in the 1980s. Today they have a LCD TV complete with Playstation 3, Wii and DVD player!
* Lisa uses a brick phone in the 1980s (which would have been considered a luxury at the time!), now she has the same phone most of us carry!
* Throughout the course of the series Bentley had a laptop computer that was the size of a small suitcase. Now he has a netbook!
* Ralph LOVED his record deck and walkman in the 1980s. Today I imagine he will have traded it in for something like an iStation for his MP3 player!
* Though not shown, Melissa would now have a digital camera instead of one that uses film.
* You may also notice the portrait of The Raccoons' creator Kevin Gillis (I'm not great at charicatures!) changes in accordance to the time period, yet The Raccoons themselves haven't aged!
It is interesting what difference three decades makes!

YAY! I knew you wasen't done with Raccoons fanart, not by a long shot! I love your fanartwork of them, as you all ready knew. :D Love the spot the difference type of scenario with this picture. I notice you didn't mention Melissa holding a DVD or possibly a Blu-ray disk, LOL!. :D I would never have noticed the Kevin gillis thing, unless you told me though. :D I love it. :)
This sure brings back memories!!
I love the way you've done this - not just how you've captured the characters, but also the subtle things. The picture of a scene from the Evergreen Forest itself in the 2010 picture, for instance. And Melissa's classic scowl in the 1980s picture!!
Great work!

As a child of the '80s, I remember thinking about how awesomely modern everything was: VCR, color tv, cassette tapes... heck, even this spiffy newfangled thing called a computer that could magically do anything. Now, of course, it's all charmingly antiquated, which makes me wonder just what the uber-modern stuff we have today is going to look like in another 30 years. ;3
I also remember loving this cartoon even then, so it's nice that some things never change. Spiffy pic, by the by. :3

I love when I see this stuff. Showing past and today togeter. I wish I was born in the 80s. But this is still cool. I wonder how broed the guy with the big compture will be with out Wii. Yea. Even I wish I was born in the 80s. I will be sare of how broeding will be with out Wii.
My, my, how the times do change! And yet, everyone stays the same
I'd hope Bert'd still play his old guitar from time to time at least; one thing that worries me a little bit about Guitar Hero is that I worry people may opt to play the game rather than actually learn to play a real guitar. (Being able to play "Free Bird" on Guitar Hero is a LOT different from being able to actually play it on an actual guitar!) But oh yeah, I could definitely see Bert keeping up with the times and still playing video games right up to the present day. I could easily see Bert LOVING Pokemon (or its' Raccoons equivalent) when it came out in the late '90s
