Argent is a recon dragon, not a battle dragon which hurts his ego. The commander he's referring to is admiral Hans af Stååhlnäfwe who insisted on sailing out of port, ramming two ships in the process. This is why square riggers are normally towed out of harbor.

I actually read a book about the history of the Swedish navy during the age of sail. It was apparently considered perfectly normal for ships to sink through various misadventure, and it was so common nobody considered it strange when out of three ships sailing between two ports in Skåne, only one eventually made it there, six weeks delayed, and the other two were never heard from again.
The incompetence level was apparently well matched by all the other fleets operating in the Baltic however, so it wasn't really a problem...

I'd say it was not so much incompetence as the inherent dangers of wooden sailing ships in ages where weather forecasts were sketchy, and maps were vague. Then there was the problem with wooden ships, as with Gribshunden, the royal, danish ship that sank 1495 close to Ronneby. It probably had the best sailors and the best officers that the danish navy could muster, yet sank after catching fire and exploding.

But incompetence is much more fun in a comic! *Grin!* *Nudge, nudge...*

It continued, for some navies, into the age of diesel powered steel ships. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Mdi_Fh9_Ag
Yes, that one is a shining star among the stories of documented incompetence! I saw the video when Drachinifel (lovely name) first put it up, and enjoyed it thoroughly.
A pity it was a real war, and real sailors that had to die. Stories and comics are so much better... *Nudge, nudge, nudge!* Write a synopsis of the comic. Make it no longer than a few hundred words. Then do a storyboard with sketches. Then just do the comic. The story could just be a small excerpt from the glorious tale of the Royal Dragoons (or whatever) of the Swedish Luftvapen.

I imagine there would be dragoons as well as cavalry. Argent with crew is definitely the latter.
That always bugs me with the air lifted infantry of the USA in the Vietnam war calling themselves "air cavalry". The helicopter crews were air cavalry, but the infantry carried on them were definitely air dragoons.
