This is kinda a darker spot in the lore overall, the population of the americas did not drop from 1.2 billion to an awakening population of around 60 million only to fall down to just under 20 million easily or peacefully, there was a lot of tragedy in the first 1-5 years post awakening for sure so finding little tucked away skeletons and various notes or memorials isn't uncommon.

Sad as it is, the "human" part of the dragonscape and the early post-awakening are some of my favorite parts of the setting to read about. The letter and its context are an interesting little story of their own.
Hopefully it helps make Oli understand why many of the surviving drekir act a bit strange by human standards.

It is a dark period that is kinda foggy and mostly I stay away from it because its just a bit too bleak. It's hard to write a comic where starving survivors in a half frozen wendys discuss what to do with the dozens of frozen colorful dragonraptor bodies in the corner that isn't absurdly dark. It's one of the reasons I wanted to go with the first human in the dragonscape 36 years after the awakening rather than the very very dark early awakening years which the 1st gen drekir (2% of the prepulse population on average) survived.
It might help with context though, Many 1st gen drekir come out of the early hellish years with a fair share of trauma and a bit of a need to understand what happened to their world so it does help explain why the societies of the dragonscape are different from the prepulse cultures in such an extreme way
