A deserved respite beside the fire and a long stretch of land between Ranyk and the dangers of his life. Though his dangers were behind him for the most part, at least for the moment. Those problems still nested tightly within his mind. He goes on, thinking over the the the series of events that brought him here and the many things he's lost along the way. The fire crackles and pops, the only sound that seems to be keeping him company.
At the start of it all, he was apart of a small band of gnolls, a group of five. Partaking in the conflicts of the lands mostly owned and ruled by feuding houses of scaled beings, A few of these houses often offering goods and coins to help tip the scales of coming battles into favorable ones. Life was as expected, blood soaked but rewarding. Things were good for Ranyk and the band of gnolls he fought along with, good for a time at least. That time however was cut short with one conflict. One that had set them up against overwhelming forces.
Two of Ranyk's group had died, and what came next was only ill fate for those that remained. Whatever had survived that battle, those who lived were taken captive and brought to the enemy's main settlement. it took them days to arrive, though when they did a few of the prisoners were taken and publicly executed in front of the masses with a echoing roar of approval coming after. The rest were taken to the markets and sold as slaves. Ranyk remembered every bit of it, how could he not seeing the remaining of his band being pulled off elsewhere after being sold, their fates unknown now. Then his turn came, sold to a scaled being, and carted away to an estate.
He was tested on his arrival along with the others who came with him on that cart. In the end he had become a servant to the estate though with his ability to fight, he was also often chosen to participate in events between conflicting petty lords with combatants dueling to the death, and sometimes dangerous creatures. Such events happened frequently, but it only took one to trigger a chaotic event of the other lord taking dangerous action against the other. Ranyk remembers it was the event where he had mocked the opposing lord and his chosen combatants. The other scaled lord inability to keep their anger in check and dislike for Ranyk's lord lead to a battle between house bloodlines. Blood was spilled, limbs were severed, and lives were lost, including Ranyk's lord, being beheaded by the other lord.
With chaos unfolded and others killing each other, it had given Ranyk the opportunity to run off, away from it all along with the other combatants at this event going their own way. He knew though he wouldn't get very far if he tried to run through the city, so he searched for for the alternative, finding the entrance beneath the city, the sewers. While it was a better chance than the city, it was still one of the worst places to consider, the stench, the dark, and the rumors of creatures and spirits made it a hazard, Though what else could he do? He braved the sewers, moving through guck and muck. Ranyk can recall he lost track of time navigating through the underside of the city. He did manage to see some unsightly creatures but lucky enough to avoid their detection. he remembered he almost had lost hope in finding an exit, but it had shown itself with sunlight down the sewer way. There he left, and never looked back, moving through the lands and to where he finds himself now.
It's been a while since I did some lore or character backstory things so please bear with me.
