Lovecraft fans rejoice!
This lil' fella is a Byakhee-- an arcane beast of burden from H.P. Lovecraft's "The Festival".
It's supposed to look like a mix of about half a dozen different creatures. I could list those creatures myself... or, better yet, I could just insert the obligatory Byakhee quote from the story.
"There flapped rhythmically a horde of tame, trained, hybrid winged things ... not altogether crows, nor moles, nor buzzards, nor ants, nor decomposed human beings, but something I cannot and must not recall."
I have to say that I'm very pleased with the way this one turned out. I managed to work in all the animals listed, and still make it look like a complete creature in itself.
