You know, I've seen that trope somewhere before... *Snaps fingers* Villains like Frieza, overconfident only because they have so much strength behind them. But, when their opponent puts up a good fight, that's when they get desperate and use whatever means they can to win. Not to mention they have uh... henchmen who aren't the best at logic.
