I mean, they told me they're different kinds of magic-y types. But I mean, is there really any difference? It's all glowy hands and haughtiness anyway.
(And yes I'm missing my wings, they didn't fit the composition of the pic. One of the mages made them invisible or something Iunno)

I mean, I'm sure there are different styles, forms, what have you. But with weapons, the ultimate goal is the same, regardless of style - put pointy end in other guy (or hit other guy with heavy end). Same sort of principle...probably goes with magic. Right?

Magic is more versatile than that, it's not only a weapon, it can heal, protect and empower. For combat, there are many ways to get rid of enemies too, burn them with fireballs, zap to death or just blast away with arcane bolts, the principle stays the same for combat in general, use what you've got to win, if you've got a pointy metal thing use that, if you have magical bolts use those :P
