Ref sheet - Alyssa Aspen (art by Zako)
Here's my main OC, Alyssa Aspen! She's an adventurous demigirl with a mind like a steel trap, an appetite like a furnace, and a heart of gold.
Alyssa's egg was hatched in the care of Taren Aspen, a scientist who had volunteered to raise Alyssa and her siblings. Alyssa's parents travel the world in search of lost relics from an ancient civilization, in an effort to discover everything they could about it. In the meantime, Alyssa was raised by Taren so that she could go to a normal school and live a normal life without having to worry about constantly traveling.
Alyssa is friendly and smart, though she suffers from major anxiety issues. Growing up with a scientist has made her curious about everything, and so she's set up her own detective agency in order to put this curiosity to use. Her anxiety sometimes gets in the way, but she has a therapy dog to help with these issues.
So what is a Mentali? Well, to put a long story short, Mentali are dragons with feline traits, a race that came into being thousands of years ago when a tribe of cheetahs and a tribe of dragons came together to share their resources and form a bigger community, and... well, you can figure out the rest. Mentali are born with either one or two elemental affinities, though one can be nearly overwritten with psychic abilities, making it a C-element.
Alyssa is a C-Blazing/Lux Mentali. She has fire breath, heat resistance, a variety of psychic abilities (though stuff like mind-reading is off the table), the ability to keep her sight even in bright light (though she's nearsighted and needs glasses), the ability to create illusions surrounding herself, and the ability to create hardlight constructs (though she has to be touching them or else they disintegrate). However, this doesn't come without weaknesses; ice magic and dark magic are incredibly devastating to her, and she has a particularly strong reaction to electric shocks, being knocked out with just one zap.
This gal was my first true OC. Inspired by Ziyo Ling's character Lilac, with touches of Shantae and Cave Story's Curly Brace, I designed Alyssa to be a female foil to my fursona Chris, which I soon learned was... kind of a terrible characterization idea? Ah, well. I formed more and more of an interest in how I'd designed her, and soon she went far beyond my original plans. I don't regret any of it.
