No bigger than a housecat, this unusual homunculus is styled like the noble beasts of the desert that share their name. Their construction is more costly than a normal flesh-and-bone construct, as it also requires quicksilver, lapis lazuli, a feather from an actual sphinx, a dead grey jay, jackdaw or catbird, and a pound of pure silver ore. The resulting construct is possessed of many special qualities that makes it a worthy familiar to a powerful wizard: their bodies are highly resistant to most forms of attack, they are not fooled by illusions, and they recall everything they witness with perfect clarity. They can assume the form of an inert statue, and so are often left to guard chambers or quarters and observe the occupants discretely. With such a focus on detailed observation, argentine sphinxes also tend to become rather opinionated on the things they observe, and are quick to point out flaws in calculations, spelling errors, or fashion faux pas, unless specifically instructed not to.
