So I waffled HARD on whether I wanted to graze such a serious topic in what was otherwise a very fantastical setting. However, in the end I decided I needed something real to tether Deathe's motivations to. Deathe is a very exaggerated villain, but like other characters in the comic I wanted there to be some depth for the reader to find her. Difficulties related to illness are something I think everyone can understand, which allows everyone to see where Deathe's passion (And anger) come from, even if has acted on it in the worst way possible.

...maybe not a LOT, but SOME. A much better job than the MCU made of making Thanos relatable, since it's canon that Thanos screwed up and removed half of ALL life, including food plants, endangered species, Trees, Plankton... EVERYTHING. So, so much for ecosystems getting to EASILY repair themselves. (He's a Moron - they should have stuck with the Comic Book Motivation, as whacked as it was, it still made more sense)
