I do some of my best thinking asleep, apparently. This is evidence of it. I thought it up in its essentials while stumbling out of bed. It isn't furry. It isn't fantasy. It isn't Roman history either, but that's as close as this story gets to anything. I don't specify a particular year, but late in the reign of Hadrian will do.
