Chapter 1: Shoxx
Two men in their mid-thirties wearing heavy plate armor ran through a dark mountain passage, chasing what looked like a teenage boy in a hooded trench coat, these men had curved swords that were attached to the right side of the belt section of the armor and helmets so you couldn’t see the faces of the two men. The boy turned a corner and hid behind some large boulders followed shortly by the two men who looked around puzzled.
“He’s got to be around here somewhere” the first man announced “Keep looking he can’t have gotten too far.”
“He better not have gotten away or the old man will have our head chopped and put on his mantle piece.” The second said sounding slightly worried. ”Come on out kid and we’ll try and convince the boss not to rip your scales from your body while you’re still alive.”
“I’d like to see him try it.” The boy answered, his voice seeming deeper that a humans should be.
The boy came out from behind the rock and lowered his hood. The boys face and the rest of his visible body was covered in gold-brown scales, his ears where slightly longer than a humans and had a slight finned shape to them, also he had scales growing on his head in substitute of hair, finally his eyes were red in colour and his pupils where slits not unlike a serpent’s. As for his hands, they looked just like a normal persons except for two distinct things, first, just like the rest of him, his hands where covered in scales and the second is that instead of nails, each of his fingers (thumb included) had large talons growing where there would usually be nails growing. Since his trench coat was now partially open you could see the front of a thick battle suit and a double belt that had small square shaped pouches attached to it.
One of men drew there sword and pointed them towards the teenager.
“So then, you stopped running. Guess you’re not such a coward after all!” the first man said mockingly, but the second looked a little worried.
“Careful, you know what they say; an animal is at its most dangerous when it’s been cornered.” The man’s voice was very shaky; it was obvious that he was afraid.
“I keep forgetting that you’ve never worked with a Drakan before, all you need to do is remember that their scales are weak along the stomach and neck areas.”
“Yeah, your right there, but who said you’d get any where near my stomach and you sure as hell ain’t getting near my head with a sword.” The Drakan interrupted entering a battle ready stance.
“Don’t listen to that wind bag; we aren’t in any danger as long as we wear this armor.”
“Huh?” the second man said with mild surprise
“This armor is made from an infusion of Mithril and Iron, no weapon or magic can pierce the armor.” The second man then drew his sword and the two readied themselves for a fight.
“Think I’ll put that to the test.” The Drakan thought to himself as the two men charged him.
The two men swung at the Drakan in unison but he dodged side ways and slashed straight through the first man’s armor as if it was made of paper and then continued to make deep gashes in the man’s side. His partner watched in shock as the man collapsed to the ground, the gashes had made the man bleed to death.
“Well, I guess the armor wasn’t as tough as he thought, but then again my Talons can cut through almost anything.” The remaining man looked on in terror and when finally he noticed the Drakan’s attention was focused on his fallen team mate he tried to run back down the mountain passage; however the Drakan had caught up and passed the man before he even got to the opening of the passage. “Where are you going? I thought your orders where to capture me.”
“They where.” the man’s voice was shaking violently, he was obviously afraid for his life.
“Then answer me this. Who are you more afraid of me or your boss?” The Drakan asked putting on a threatening voice.
“My boss, all you can do is kill me, he can do much worse that that. He’ll kill me and my family just for sport if he felt like it.” The Drakan seemed to crack a smile and there was warmth in his voice when he spoke. “Well at least you’re honest.” The man looked up curiously at the Drakan. "Look I don’t want to kill any one. Your friend down their forced me to do that and to be honest I didn’t want to do it.” The man got up a stared at the Drakan; he could hardly believe what he was hearing but left anyway keeping his eyes on the Drakan at all times. The Drakan called after the man. “If I where you, I’d let your boss think you ARE dead. Grab your family and leave as soon as you can.”
“You know what, I might just do that.”
“Well, good luck.”
“Thanks, my name’s Thon by the way.”
“You wouldn’t be able to pronounce mine, but the closest you could come is Shoxx, I guess.”
With that Thon ran off back down the passage way he had chased Shoxx through hardly daring to believe his luck. Not only had he escaped with his life, it seemed as if this Drakan was the not the monster that people believed him to be, but in fact more Humane than most Humans he knew. Meanwhile Shoxx had left the battle ground and found an area heavily covered in boulders and such so that in would be near impossible for someone to disturb him and then he gradually fell asleep, reflecting on what had happened over the course of the last few hours.
Shoxx woke a few hours later; he looked around aimlessly having trouble remembering what had happened the previous night. Then it hit him, he remembered everything. Shoxx jumped up onto his feet and ran back down the passage he had been chased up last night. It was now around midday so you could plainly see everything in the area. However this only annoyed Shoxx slightly since Drakan eyesight is actually better in the dark than in day light. This is due to the rate that there snake like eyes absorb light from the surrounding area. It also annoyed him because it meant that he couldn’t conceal himself as well as he could in the dark as he traveled.
The following week Shoxx arrived out side a quaint little village surround completely by forest. This town had no defensive structures, a small market square and only six little cottages scattered here and there. However on the north edge of the town was a manor that looked like it could house around thirty people in total. Shoxx took a deep breath the sounded more like a low growl and then set off into the town.
