Located in Haven Square, a subsection of Owlwood’s Old Town, The Scarlet Cup is a 3-story building that functions as a café and a game shop. Often open 24 hours a day, it’s a popular hangout for students of Salem Academy and other residents living in the area.
The ground floor is easily the largest part and serves as the game shop portion of the café. The owner, ice dragoness Freya Damson, is often seen running the shop. The shop mainly sells tabletop games and accessories, along with various sets of t-shirts, posters and nerdy memorabilia. You can even commission to have buttons and magnets made in shop, all you must do is provide a picture and pay a small manufacturing cost.
The lounge acts as a downstairs area for the Café, as well as a space for people to play games. Artists are often encouraged to hang artwork on the walls and put them up for sale. If players want a quick meal, theres a small snack station available for people to get bottled drinks and small bags of food. Should they need something bigger than a snack, patrons are encouraged to go upstairs. They can eat these meals in the lounge if they choose to, but they cannot bring food or drinks into the shop or the gaming area. Despite being open 24 hours, the game shop is closed in the evenings.
The second floor is the Café itself, which can be accessed by the lounge downstairs or from a stairway on the outside of the shop. Holstaur Vodina Hathor is the head chef and café manager here. If you're looking for grab-and-go meal, you're looking in the wrong place. While items like sandwiches and simple drinks can be ordered here, the Café is mainly a space for people to hang out and enjoy a good meal while reading a book or studying. A trivia question is found on the menu, and those that get a right answer get a small discount or a free drink. The question is changed daily and will often vary in subjects from science to history, literature and even pop culture.
The top floor is Freya’s apartment, where she’ll occasionally invite patrons for private d&d sessions or allow a guest or two to spend the night if they are unable to go home or don’t feel safe. This latter reason is something shared by all shop owners in Haven Square as it provides a safe place for residents, within reason.
