A few weeks after shooting this photo, I decided it was time to replace the strings on this mandolin. Operating as I do with my guitars, I removed all of the strings at once. I had no idea that the only thing holding the bridge in place was string pressure. What should have been a quick and routine operation took a lot of extra time as I learned the hard way how to reposition the bridge properly.

I've owned and played archtop, hollow-body guitars for ages, and I, too, learned that lesson the hard way. Thank goodness your mandolin doesn't have a spring-loaded Bigsby tailpiece like the Gretsch guitar I learned that lesson with! What a mess...never made THAT mistake again!
