Star Control II is one of my favorite games. I got into it kinda late (back in the mid 2010s, I think? Guess that makes me a fake fan :B), and I'm kicking myself for it now.
Two of my favorite alien races are the Yehat and the Shofixti. The Yehat uplifted the Shofixti, introduced them to space travel. For a while, they thought the Shofixti were all dead. You can make them repopulate, though, and taking one aboard to one of the Yehat proves to them they are not. They're basically family.
The Yehat are the pterodactyl-type dudes; the Shofixti are meta marsupials. (I based the markings on the one in this picture off of the Tasmanian Devil) Here they are, hanging out, and apparently someone looked at them funny, hence why the SHofixti is shaking her tiny little furry fist at them.
Done with ink and watercolor brush pens with white gel pen here and there..
