The darkened skyline cast the modest home in the dying light of the late afternoon. The front door opened and a long sigh flowed from the spotted figure stepping inside. “It gets dark so early now. I know winter just started, but come on spring. Hurry up.” came the feminine voice of the Dalmatian as she tossed her keys into a bowl next to the door and flipped the light switch on. “Thank God I have programmable heating here. It’s good to be home.” Pips said as she hung her jacket on the coat rack behind the door, and stretched her arms up over her head tiredly. She moved through the living room and into the kitchen to retrieve a bottle of water from the refrigerator.
She walked into her bedroom and unbuttoned the blue top of her uniform. The sound and feeling of her phone buzzing caught her attention, and she pulled it out of her pocket to see who had texted her. The area code alone made her eyes open wider with curiosity. She immediately recognized it as the code for Vashel where she grew up. “Domino got a new number maybe? Or Dad?” she mused before the owner of the number popped into her mind. It had been a while since she’d last seen it, but she remembered who it belonged to now. She could have sworn she’d blocked it. Maybe she hadn’t. She opened the message and began to read it silently.
“Pippy. It’s your mother. I know things are rocky between us. But I would like to ask once again if I could maybe be let back into your life; even if it’s just at arm’s length. I just want to know that you’re okay. And I want you to know that I’m always here for you.” read the text. Above the text were similar messages dating back a few years to even before Pips moved to Wolfwood. However there were no responses from Pips.
The Dalmatian put the phone down after reading the message. It had been a while since the last time her mother had tried to contact her. She knew that her mother was being kept somewhat up to date on her life by her brother, and even her best friend Confetti. She turned and her gaze fell on a framed picture on her desk. The photograph was of her when she was a little girl. Her mother was in the picture too. The older Dalmatian was over her; Tickling her mercilessly while she rolled on the ground helplessly. And even though she remembered vividly that she couldn’t breathe through the onslaught; the still frame captured her tail wagging furiously. She used to have a very close relationship with her mother when she was a kid. How much time had passed since the last time she’d heard her mother’s voice?
A new sigh flowed over the Dalmatian female’s lips as she picked the phone up. She tapped the screen a couple times and the sound of the phone ringing filled her ears. A loud click sounded off before a confused and slightly timid voice came into recognition. “Hello?” asked the familiar voice before Pips began to speak.
“Hello mum…” she said softly in answer.

Well we have the new character I mentioned before. Pips' mother. But it seems that she's not on good terms with her daughter. I wonder why. We'll find out soon.
