This was a total surprise from Menagerie, to me. It just appeared out of the blue on FA one day in November. It's so terribly cute, and captures the characters perfectly, I think.
The idea of the unique, elevated play-space that Ned and Menag have created for themselves: it's amusing, and so in keeping with what I would imagine for them. AND, I really love how Amethystine is just sliding on by at first, then smoothly glides upward on his extended coils to check out the state of the game. <3
The joke is great, too - poking fun at himself! All the accumulated knowledge in that shifter, and he never had anyone who knew chess? Or maybe he's had so many minds pass through him, he gets things mixed up sometimes, hehe.

What really really got me when Menagerie posted this is that he knew he could use my characters like this, and he knew he had them correct, and he knows I trust him with them entirely, and he knew he could just post this without ever showing it to me, to make it that much more of a huge, awesome surprise. Other people might feel like they have to check to make sure everything's okay, or if it's alright. But he knew he could do something like this, so he just did. A__A
(This is not saying other people can just use Ame or Ned without asking! :P - There are a few friends who know who they are, who know they can do this sort of thing, of course. :}===< )
The greatest gifts are the ones you never see coming.
