A few years back I did some illustration work for a small RPG outfit. They let me go nuts and make up some of my own animals :)

This is a Kukarako. They are about the size of a badger and come in many extravagant colors and patterns, yet in the wild they are very elusive and mysterious. Kukarako's reproduce via their tails - if you are lucky, skilled, and tenacious enough to get close enough to get a good grip, the tail pulls out and at the end is a cute little baby Kukarako!

The baby Kukarako imprints you and you have a companion for life. Kukarako's have an indefinite lifespan, it's unknown if they eventually grow old but they live longer than a human. When their companion expires they return to the forest and resume their wild ways.
