First of the Guard

Wepwawet wasn’t used to the pomp and circumstance of being a public figure yet. For the moment he was the talk of the town, the one with articles and pictures written up and down the planet for him. From ‘new super soldier program finally bears fruit’ to ‘cosmetics and warfare: glamor and glory’. The latter one he was more proud of when he was outside of his armor. Though he was woken up early by a propaganda minister. He had been given about twenty minutes to get ready, so he barely managed to get his hair washed and his makeup on under his eyes. It would have to do. He put on his plug suit and favorite coat and strolled out of his living quarters with the minister. Wepwawet was excited, though outside of the metal comfort of his suit he felt exposed and had to keep a straight face to prevent a nervous blush from setting in. Today was more pictures and more public appearances outside his armor, to let people know they were in good hands with the New Guards of Cairopia, even if there was only one right now. The first of many. Hopefully, anyways. But the first event on the agenda was more pictures. This time in the hangar with his armor. But not in it. The minister lead him to the depot where a huge cordon has been set up to keep the photographers and news men back from touching (or seeing) too much. Men jockeyed for a first place spot to yell questions and take flashing photos of the new soldier caste. Wepwawet stopped before the raised railing in front of his machine and looked up into the scarlet eyes of it, the harsh vermillion glow of its dormant slumber warmed his spirits. He wished he could climb in and pose for the people properly with all of his glory to show, with the confidence of steel and strength of gold his life demands. He needed to calm down his nervousness. With closed eyes the jackal took in a breath to muster his courage and spun on his heels and looked to the crowd of tabloid writers, propaganda ministers, amateur photographers, and a few technical magazine writers. The jockeying ceased as the photo opportunity presented itself and Wepwawet almost smiled as the flashes of camera shutters bathed him and his second skin with the glow of adoration. Maybe he could get used to this. An amazing commission done by the absolute legend
