Remember that trashed Playmobil pirate skiff I found at Goodwill? Here it is after restoration! First I peeled off the silk flowers and scrapbooking stickers. Most of the stickers such as the ivy and curtans peeled off nice and easy, but the letter stickers that had been used to rename her SS. Honeymoon left torn paper and sticky residue on the hull. I removed this with Googone. Next was tackling the broken transom. I couldn't snap it back into place, otherwise it would break clean off. I decided to use a heat gun to soften the plastic so I could bend it. This worked splendidly. I then used a soldering iron to weld the cracked plastic back together, and also managed to burn my paw with molten plastic. Ouch. After soaking my paw in water a bit, I began to build the mast and boom, using dowels that I tapered the ends of with sand paper. I then sewed up sails made from old umbrella fabric and added rigging, completing the restoration. I am quite happy with how she turned out, and the skiff, now named Albatross, has been a fine addition to my fleet.
