After Christmas, humans will quite often donate their children's old toys to Goodwill so they will have room for the next wave of rubbish, therefore this is prime time to head out to Goodwill and see what you can find. One of my favorite things to look for is damaged model or toy ships, and then use my model building skills to rebuild them. This recent find is the hull of a Playmobil pirate skiff, which had been repurposed at some point as a centerpiece, decorated with scrapbooking stickers, silk flowers, and renamed SS. Honeymoon. It was likely used as decoration for a bon voyage party preceding a honeymoon cruise. The worst damage was that at some point the boat had been stepped on while upside down, and this broke its transom, leaving it bent and with three hideous cracks. I almost passed it up because of this damage, but purchased it anyway because I love challenging restorations, and could tell that if I succeeded, she would become a very fine vessel indeed.
