The tool head was given to me by a neighbor. He wanted to see what I would do with it, since he knows I make stuff out of old tools from time to time. He was quite surprised I just put it back into working condition. I actually needed a hoe to cut through roots and dig.
The handle is made from the trunk of a young maple sapling, it doesn't really need to be super duper strong, since it isn't for cutting trees or digging through rock.
The wedging to keep it on is a bunch of sassafras wood that I cut to fit the tear-drop shape of the eye and the outer surrounding space. It works very well! I haven't had any problem with it wanting to slip off and as far as I can tell, it's basically stuck for good until the thing breaks.
