So I have named them, Pepper (the b/w one), Cinnamon (the fawn one in the middle) and Ginger (the white and orange hooded).
They were babies born to rescued rats at a sort of local rat rescue/adoption place!
I drove about 200 miles today to go get them and come home. =) They're super relaxed and affectionate, hand raised from birth. They're so sweet... They are underweight though, as they had to share their mother with alot of other abandoned babies.
This is my new trio, a minute after they made it home from a long car ride. They love their new home and their food. =)

I was told they are 7 1/2 weeks, but they're much smaller than their younger babies that were born at the rescue. These babies were born to the rescue when they received 6 pregnant mothers, and 2 mothers died, their mother and 4 others had to nurse like... waaay too many babies. )
I have two 20 gallon long tanks (one is the baby/quarantine tank. The other is the 'changing rat litter/cleaning big cage/hospital/sick rat tank). I also have my 4ft tall ferret multilevel cage on wheels (that's where the current 4 grown up rats live). I also have a 3 ft x 3 ft multi level ferret cage (my old big rat cage). I have a baby mini tank (for vet trips or moving them around the house/cleaning tanks), A carry cage with handle (fits up to 2 adults or alot of babies), and I have a small animal 2 foot long floor cage (I got it for 6 bucks clearance at a grocery store) for multi adult rat vet visits. =)
I always recommend have more than one tank, for emergencies/sickness/evacuation, etc. Makes life easier.
OH, talking about GETTING cages, try a SMALL petstore (a locally owned, not a chain), ASK for a manager/owner and see if they have any old/broken/cracked aquariums. Tell them you have rats and you were just looking for an extra tank, offer them up to 25$ for it.
=)
I got all my long aquariums for 15$ at local shops. They usually use them for breeding of rodents or lizards. They aren't waterproof cuz they're cracked, but they work great for rats. =D
Usually pet stores are thrilled to get rid of stuff that's taking up space, that otherwise they'd never be able to sell!

thats a lot of faith to put in the chance that the shelter would have 3 adorable little ratties for you.
Glad you got what you drove all the way there for, it's not a waste of gas money if you got something worthwhile out of it.
I wish you and your new friends the best of health.
