Bob getting put into his place. Saw this coming from a mile away, but it's nice to see. I predicted that Bob's clan wouldn't support him if the vast amount of crimes and disobedience was relayed to them. Looks like Vlagg knows how to even the score. Bob's going to find out that he pissed off the wrong superior officer. Considering that Bob's had an underlying contempt for Bob this whole time, to which he's been quite open to express, I'm certain that Vlagg's going to make sure that Bob's never going to forget this. Gervic's meeting with Vlagg is coming up soon; Vlagg isn't going to like a lot of what Gervic's going to tell him. I wonder if experimentation on prisoners of war is going to sit well with him?
Look out, Bob. You've finally bitten off way more than you ever could possibly chew.
Look out, Bob. You've finally bitten off way more than you ever could possibly chew.
Hmmm Something tell thats only reason why Vlagg cares it's his sense of morality and honor. Technically General doesn't have any reason to punish Bob, except for insubordination. And remind me who is Gervic. According to this comic he's no one. He's good soldier, commander, but without heritage he's nothing but a piece of dust. It's Middle Age, not nowadays when we can operate think about human rights. And it's war! Wolves trade dragons, dragons trade wolves and someone make a cash of it. If Gervic had some infuential patron, that was a problem. Rumors of his survival would turn into something horrible. But we didn't see something else, so, yes, Gervic simple slave. We can feel compession to him, but that's change nothing.
And i hope Vlagg understand what he's doing. Saying that you will stop trade operations of Bob's clan sounds like bluff. Especially after you become dishonored in eyes of your father, if i remember it's right. And if you don't want Magical Weapon, we can find less "fussy" customer. Only hope Bobby not smart enough to understand that.

Military command, even back in this age, is still a very big deal. Honor was considered a stronger motive to comply with the chain of command's orders than simple obedience. You're right about seeing this story in today's lens of human rights, but the problem here is that Bob openly flaunted the orders of his superior officer by denying them while his superior was recovering from war injuries. Gervic might not have a long and esteemed lineage, but he was enough of a warrior to fight his way up the line of military succession to become a very important leader with influence. This probably gave him more respect than even Vlagg has with his own troops; Vlagg was born into a line of military leaders (winged dragon) and raised to take authority. Essentially, Vlagg vs. Gervic are two opposites of the same coin. Vlagg was the political leader's son put in charge of the military position, while Gervic worked his way up out of nothing to get somewhere. Vice Commander Herrin even investigated Gervic's history and told Vlagg about it, questioning whether his history was a factor in Gervic's refusal to surrender. The sad thing about Gervic's ill fated decision to refuse surrender was that Gervic made a bad call, but might have also received faulty intelligence; Gervic thought that Vlagg was trying to lie to get them to lower their guard. The irony behind this decision is that the events that followed almost confirmed that Gervic was the one who was right all along. All this means that Vlagg has a lot of reasons to punish Bob; insubordination is the least of Bob's crimes. Court martialing is no joke. Vlagg is probably not afraid at all to shut down the trade with Bob's clan. Heck, Bob's own clan might even execute him if they find out that Bob's actions caused them to lose a significant financial incentive.
I maybe agreed if author didn't show one little detail! Xenophobia! So i doubt that someone will shut down some trade operations for slave, especially if this is enemy. Especially when we speak about a mage with useful researchs. Honor or not, alchemic give excellent results for good of Drakeheim. Because what did Bob done, except for torturing Gervic. Upgraded his brutes thats dragons can use more "materials" for creating war machine, sheltered Pirates thats was hired by Drakeheim, more like privateers from that point of view. So They were in the service of Drakeheim. Vlagg can be pissed as many as he wants about pirates, honor, soldiers and etc., but until he's not a clan leader he can't make a big harm to Bob. I imagine what his father say:
Let's get this straignt. You gave to an enemy commander, wolven bastard, which slow our military campaing for "protecting "our borders for two months, sanctuary and punished a wizard, which gave you a victory! Sonny Are you alright? Maybe yor're ill! I will talk with our ally about this incident, but i didn't shut down any trade operation because of this, little fag. You can punish him for insubordination! But don't dare to kill him! His fate wil bel decided by Uhranill Clan! His brutes show great results in this war! And about you guest! Find out everything he knows and lock him! He can be useful." Maybe you're right thats Bob deserves punishment, but executing him and harm his clan will be mistake. Castle is protected and technically saved under Drakeheim control. Bob didn't fail his task. If green faggot loosed castle there was another question. And he too useful for Vlagg as sorcerer, not someone who works on kitchen! Something tell me thats he's "excellent" chief. If there were evidence about betrayal and trying to kill commander, 100% death for Bob. So he can remove some of his privileges for that, but not execute. Until moment, when his service becomes useless,
