“He’s late. Typical.”
With an exasperated sigh, Whisper impatiently glanced around the park, wondering where he could be at.
They had both agreed to meet up at 1900 at the nearby park: the plan was to discuss the situation and how they would execute it, then head back to their respective headquarters before anyone got suspicious. At first, Whisper was wary to meet in a public spot, even if it was at night. However, her contact reassured her that even in the middle of the day, minus the occasional jogger passing through, the park was desolate…the current epidemic made most of the citizens self-quarantine.
Plus with the time change, it got dark earlier now, so not many people lingered outside past 1800.
She didn’t bring her weapon to avoid attracting unwanted attention, all the more reason she hoped he would hurry up and get here. Her ears twitched as she heard footsteps about a block away. Putting a few coins in the vending machine, she got a cherry soda, along with some strawberry pocky.
To her surprise, she turned around from the machine and is greeted by you, a random stranger to her.
Looking at you somewhat vexed, she studied you, trying to determine if you are friend or foe: you were NOT the person she was looking for. Her ears relaxed as she doesn’t detect anything negative or hostile about you, at least not yet. You are not sure whether to be afraid of her or not…she seemed like the type of person that should not be provoked, yet she was smiling at you? Curious.
Noticing she is obviously on guard, you wave and smile at her, trying to say hello. Explaining to her that you were out for a late night scroll, you point to the vending machine, hoping to get a flavored water to drink.
She cautiously moved aside, watching your every movement…she is still a bit wary of your presence. Tapping her claws against the side of the machine, she waited until you got your drink from the machine before giving you a “friendly” word of caution, “You should not be here right now. I suggest you leave the area. Go that way; it is safer.”
She pointed to the northwest corner of the park that was well lit and had a string of lights along the sidewalk.
Looking at her in disbelief, you’re not sure what to think of what she just said: was she threatening you or helping you?
Raising a brow, wondering why you had not left yet, she continued, occasionally taking a sip of her drink, “Fine, you can stay. Just know I will not be held responsible for anything that happens to you.”
Now THAT sounded like a threat.
You started to ask her if she would be okay. No, there was nothing you could do to help! You were not exactly a fighter. Nor did you have any weapons, but you could at least try to protect or help her out! Apparently she could already tell what you were going to ask because she stopped you mid-sentence, “I’m fine. Have a good evening.” She smiled at you; surprisingly you felt at ease: so she was not going to hurt you! But still…
Nodding, you heed her advice and take the lit pathway to exit the park…walking at a very fast pace as you do so.
Whisper, this is why you don’t have any friends: you scare everyone off even when you’re trying to be nice! LOL
Waiting for a “friend” to meet up with her, Whisper patiently waits in the park when you stumble upon her. Now let the record show, Whisper is usually friendly and easy to talk to…usually. Just avoid getting in her way, especially if it involves her job.
I want to give a huge thanks to the talented artist behind this piece: firetally. She always does a stellar job drawing my girl; she always goes above and beyond on my commissions and it shows too! Thank you so much again~
