"Get up. I know you are not dead...not yet at least." She kicked at his limp body, knowing damn well what he was up to: he was trying to play possum, hoping she would leave him alone-
She knew better.
She had been in this field long enough to know when someone was dead or close to death. Whisper knew how to sense death, a trick she picked up in her studies. Mind you, she could easily reach down and feel for a pulse, but she didn't want to risk falling for a potential trap. With an impatient sigh, she gave his supposedly lifeless body one more nudge with her foot, before placing the tip of her blade at his snout-
"Either you get up now and we finish this fight, or if you want to play dead, I will make it a reality for you."
He quickly leapt up and crawled back a few feet, making sure to put some distance between himself and the disgruntled lyolf, "GOMEN! I'm alive, I'm alive. Please don't kill me!!! How did you know I was-"
"Faking? Pfft. You must think I am a novice, child." Whisper motioned to the other lifeless corpses around the field, all allies of his. They stupidly tried to ambush her thinking they could outmatch her by their strength and numbers-
Baka. Men are so foolish at times.
However, she KNEW there was more of them- as to whether they were afraid to approach her, or waiting to ambush her in a final rush, she stood there...patiently waiting. In the meantime...
Her eyes met the little "possum" once more. He didn't even try to run, which surprised her quite a bit. At least he wasn't a complete coward; she would give him that much credit. Instead, he stood in front of her, shaking as he held up his blade to defend himself from her...his eyes wide and full of fear and uncertainty: he already knew what his fate was. As she studied him under the moonlight, she realized he was merely a kid...about 17 or 18, 20 years old at best. Too wet behind the ears to waste his life.
She walked up to him, watching him inch back each time she took a step forward. When he accidentally tripped over a tree root and fell to the ground, Whisper quickly seized his blade leaving him defenseless! She had him right where she wanted him. But she wasn't ready to end his life...no, she needed to send a message to his boss first. No point in letting such a massacre go to waste-
"I will spare your life, but under two conditions. First, tell your Lord I'm coming after him next. I suggest you leave shortly after telling him that if you value your life." She said half jokingly, half seriously.
"And...the other condition?" He asked somewhat skeptical if he really wanted to know or not.
Her expression softened as she tossed his blade back at him inches from his crotch, "Grow. Get stronger and better. Then when you are ready, come find me and attempt to avenge your fallen comrades. I suggest you forget everything you learned from your previous master, otherwise you will not get better under such...conditions."
As the moonlight shined on her white fur, the young guardian merely nodded as he laid there, wondering why she decided to let him live...at least for now. Before he could ask her anything else, she sprinted off. Based on the direction she was going, he already knew his master was in danger. He could have headed back in the opposite direction, cut her off at the pass, and warned him in ample time before she got there so he could escape. Yet...
He looked around at his fallen comrades: all dead. Only a few of them were remaining at headquarters; they were no match for her. Why should he meet same fate they were doomed to?
He also realized she had spared him. She might not be that nice a second time. Besides, he didn't much care for his teammates and boss anyway; he only did this job for the money and "security." The latter was...gone now.
Surrendering his boss to his inevitable fate, he stood up, brushing the dried grass and dirt off of himself, and headed toward his home. Perhaps it was time to do better for himself-
(To be continued)
Fun fact: Whisper's red scarf symbolizes the blood of her slain enemies. She wears it as a warning to her foes of their impending death. That and to look more badass on the battlefield, lol.
Throughout her travels, Whisper has a tendency to make ALOT of enemies. It's not always on purpose; it's mostly due to her profession, or people thinking they can overwhelm or assassinate her as a show of power to other groups.
So far, no one has done so...and she plans to keep it that way.
However, Whisper is not completely malevolent, she does show mercy...when it's earned or due. She won't kill anyone without a good reason or if she does not deem them worth the time or effort.
I want to give a shoutout to the artist behind this piece ShoNuff44. I love his anime style, so I decided to have him try and draw Whisper (and he was actually a little nervous since it was his first time drawing her). He did not disappoint! I even let him design a custom outfit for her in his style :)
Highly recommended- I will definitely be commissioning him to draw Whisper again, and possibly Amelia later, in his style-

Oh yeah, I am a big fan of his art, particularly how he draws humanoid women! I am actually hoping to have him draw Amelia next :)
I found him about...a month ago? And was lucky enough to get a sketch in one of his weekend streams.
Oh Whisper isn't that bad- she realized killing a kid would serve no purpose. Now if he was a full grown, cognitive man that was aware of his actions? Yeah, he'd be dead by now, lol. She realized he was just a naive kid following the wrong crowd and wrongly influenced.
"And her scarf reminds me of Bardock's headband, except it was soaked in the blood of his fallen Saiyan comrades rather than his enemies." Oh, I didn't even think about that- and here I am a big dbz fan and I missed that.
