A race living in the fringe systems, the Tevari are a reclusive species of intelligent aliens that specialize in stealth and espionage.
Standing at about 6 feet tall on average, the Tevari prefer the company of their own rather than those of other species. And with good reason. The thick fur crest of their necks is part of a highly attuned sensory system the Tevari use for detecting minute changes in their surroundings. From wind current to vibrations that signal the presence of another to even being able to detect changes in other Tevari's moods, it's a valuable part of their anatomy when it comes to spying. But because of its nature, a Tevari can actually suffer sensory overload quite easily from loud noise or too much sensory input. Severe cases can even result in post traumatic stress.
As a result, Tevari culture has built up around avoiding open conflict, as large scale warfare is not something they're built for. That's where their proficiency in spying comes in. Tevari with grudges tend to engage in more subtle means of conflict, resulting in a long history of cold wars on their planet.
Tevari social gatherings are about as quiet as everything else they do, and there's a ban on loud noises in public areas. Their spaceports are regularly far from population centers. But there's no better spy in the galaxy than a Tevari. One might think a Tevari hanging somewhere they shouldn't would automatically be assumed to be a spy. But to make that assumption, one would actually have to see them.
Just be careful if you want to hug one. Their body sensitivity makes even light contact a little ticklish for them. To that end, they often prefer form fitting clothing that leaves a lot of their fur exposed.
