These things go by a few names like cloak pin, blanket pin, brooch, penannular brooch. It's all the same really.
This one here is rather large, so it would be good for a heavy cloak or even a blanket.
The ends were made to look pretty, but they almost look like sassafras leaves. I might actually make sassafras leaves now, since I've found out a way to chisel that shape.
