A challenge to Draye! If he wins, he's free. But if he loses, he's dinner for a hungry Ryuu!
“Draye, can I eat you?” Ryuu asked suddenly during the pair’s lounging time, “I don’t feel like going out to hunt.”
Draye raised a brow at the dragon, “No, Ryuu. Not this time. It’s important that you actually eat at some point today.”
“Well, obviously. But the animals around here aren’t out and about at night. Trying to hunt one down is just annoying,” He whined softly, resting his head by Draye.
“That’s not my fault. You should have gone hunting earlier on. You’ll just have to wait until morning.” Draye explained, rubbing Ryuu’s snout gently.
“That doesn’t get rid of my hunger now though,” The dragon muttered and huffed. He grew silent. His stomach growled softly in protest to its lack of meal, “Wait, you still want to get better at escaping stomachs, right?”
“Yes, but that doesn’t mean I’m eager to dive down your throat right now. It’s late and I’d rather avoid training before sleep.”
“Right, right. But how about a deal?” Draye sighed and looked at Ryuu to continue. “I cut out all the light in this cave. You give me ten minutes to find you. If I manage it, I get to eat you. If you stay hidden, then I’ll go out and hunt down actual dinner. It’s not really training on your part, but more just practice avoiding any larger predators. What do you say?” Ryuu grinned over at Draye who stared in minor annoyance at the dragon before rolling his eyes.
“Fine. But only ten minutes. Any special rules?” He asked as he rose to his feet and stretched out.
“You’re not allowed to use magic to mask your presence in any way. So no invisibility or light steps or anything like that.”
“Alright. I think I can manage that. Will you be stepping out then to give me the chance to hide? I’ll also want to get a quick look around before we start. Give me five minutes to check out the area, then you can cut the lights and we can start. Also no telepathy because that’s just plain cheating.”
“As you wish,” Ryuu answered with a confident grin. He stood and stretched out before trotting out of the cave, “Your time is starting now.”
Draye sighed and shook his head slowly. He made sure Ryuu was gone from the cave before getting ready. Grabbing some of his clothes, he briskly walked through the cave, observing each and every crack or hole he could find. Occasionally he would toss an article of clothing into one before hurrying along to the next.
Soon the five minutes were up and Draye nestled himself into a hiding hole next to the entrance. He buried himself deep in the hole and laid out his last piece of clothing in front of him just in case the dragon checked. All at once the fires in the cave flickered out and echoing down the hall was the sound of Ryuu’s sharp claws clacking against the cave floor.
Draye peered ahead through what he hoped was still the opening of his hiding spot, but darkness had completely taken over his vision. Ryuu’s heavy steps came down stop at the entrance and Draye could hear him sniffing at the air. The dragon brought his snout down to Draye’s hiding spot in a matter of moments and felt the wind of Ryuu’s sniffs pulling and pushing at him. Draye swallowed and did his best to control his breathing, but it came out broken and staggered much louder than he cared for. He could only hope that Ryuu’s own sniffing was enough to cover the sound.
“Draye, I assumed you would do better than this.” He said in a disappointed tone. Draye had to cover his mouth to stop any noise as he suddenly saw a large, yellow eye staring in at him, “You underestimate my nose, Draye.” The eye vanished as Ryuu turned his head and slipped his tongue into the hiding spot, snaking it across the ground until it came upon the spare piece of Draye’s clothes: a simple pair of pants. Ryuu’s tongue recoiled at the touch and he chuckled softly to himself, “Or perhaps I should try to not underestimate you. Very well, Draye.” He sighed softly, his warm breath washing over Draye’s form.
Draye’s heart pounded heavily in his chest as he heard the dragon pull away and start his searches around the rest of the cave. He lowered his hands down and panted as quietly as he could manage. Ryuu circled the interior of his cave, sniffing at the ground and following Draye’s scent everywhere only to find several different articles of clothing. Draye could hear a few soft growls from a frustrated Ryuu as he failed to find the human with time quickly running low.
“Alright, Draye. I admit you’ve done well thus far,” Ryuu said to the empty room. “But I know where you are now. Step out and I may just decide to leave you outside of my stomach tonight. Make me pull you out and you’ll be there until tomorrow night.” Draye’s eyes widened and he hunkered down deeper against the far end of the rocky hole. He let out a shuddering breath at the threat but refused to believe Ryuu knew where he hid. “Very well. I’m coming for you.” Ryuu taunted, starting once more for the cave’s entrance.
Draye listened in terrified silence as Ryuu’s thudding steps grew louder and louder until they stopped just outside his alcove. For a long moment all was silent around him. He had thirty more seconds until the game was done and he was free. He heard Ryuu’s tongue snake out from the dragon’s maw to gently poke and prod around the chamber. Another wave of hot Ryuu breath washed over him making his eyes water. He shook his head and blinked away the tears. But with ten seconds remaining he suddenly felt what seemed to be a sort of wet tentacle wrap around his leg. He barely managed a whimper before he was suddenly pulled out and raised into the air.
The lights of the cave lit back up forcing Draye to cover his eyes to block the onslaught of light that assaulted them. It took several moments, but his eyes finally adjusted enough for his vision to focus on Ryuu’s tongue wrapped around his leg, holding him upside-down under the jaws that would send him to his fate for the night. He looked up further to see Ryuu’s eyes staring down at him with delight. The last thing Draye saw was a wink before the tongue flicked him up between Ryuu’s jaws which shut tight behind him to seal him in darkness once more.
Draye squirmed in light protest as Ryuu playfully licked over his form, though it lasted only a few moments before the tongue inevitably lifted to send Draye back to get unceremoniously swallowed down a moment after. The human squirmed softly during his descent, but soon fell still as he slipped through that tight ring and into Ryuu’s familiar gut. He sighed softly in defeat and got up to sit down in the center of it.
“You played a good game, Draye. I almost didn’t know where you were. I actually wouldn’t have if you had just been a bit quieter.” Ryuu chuckled as he returned to his normal spot to rest.
“What do you mean? I was quiet the entire time! How did you hear me?” Draye asked, leaning back against the dragon’s stomach.
“I could only just barely hear you, but your breathing gave it away. I heard you from the beginning, but I wanted to see just how elaborate you got. Not bad for only five minutes,” Ryuu said with a proud smile. “If you could control your breathing more I’m certain you could hide from most predators like me. So let’s see if we can work on that tomorrow then.”
“Wait, wait. You said you weren’t going to let me out until tomorrow night. I’m not going to just work on breathing stuff then.”
“Oh, relax. That was just to see what you’d do,” He chuckled and poked at his belly gently. “I’m not Jack, Draye. I’m not actually going to trap you inside me forever.”
“Right… Well, you’re going to let me out in the morning then. I want to clean up and you should hunt during that time. Get some actual food in you.”
Ryuu rolled his eyes and yawned, “Whatever you say, Draye. But until then, I’m going to enjoy my favorite little snack.” Draye’s face flushed bright red. He crossed his arms with a huff and nestled into the stomach wall without another word, “Goodnight, Draye.”
