The bustling streets slowly quieted, the lights of displays turning off, and the autumn air blowing through the night. Another Halloween had concluded, with candy treats nearly exhausted from the buckets, bowls, and bags that had held them for the travelers of the night. Matt stood outside as the glow of the moon illuminated the display he and Isabella had set up over several days, betraying the week or two of work that had gone into making the setup. It was a scene from a classic game, with a waist-high droid doubling as the candy bowl, with snarky retorts from the tall robot that flanked it. He had to turn it off for a couple of younger ones as its red eyes were spooking them. He couldn't blame them, as there were some creatures from that movie universe's bestiary that used to give him nightmares as a pup. "So, did they leave anything for us?" Isabella asked, peeking into the bowl as she stepped outside, the moonlight shining upon her smile, which gave a warm feeling to Matt as he traced her up with his eyes, locking with hers. "Well, I can say for certain that our most common holdout would be the candy corn. And with that I get more snacks than you, since they didn't leave too much chocolate." Matt replied, swishing the bowl's contents around, prompting the display robot to refer to him as a 'meatbag'. "Aww, shoot, I was really hoping for the s'more kind too. And on another topic, might I say your dress is very pretty dear? Who made it for you?" Isabella teased, pantomiming a curtsy. Matt returned the gesture, holding the sides of his robes and smirking. "All I can tell you about them is they eat all the popcorn before the halfway mark of any movie." Matt replied, teasing Isabella back about her habit of munching on all the popcorn like they were going out of style. She feigned a look of surprise as she pushed his arm lightly. They stood for a few moments longer in the cool air of autumn. They embraced before retreating back inside with the bowl of candy and with the lights off outside, perhaps to watch a movie or rest until the start of a new day in a new month.

I debated whether to post this tonight or sometime when things seemed a bit brighter, as these two are usually my go-to for upbeat and optimistic stuff, which this year hasn't had a shred of really. But I figured I'd get these two some more spotlight as it's been awhile, and I wasn't feeling as down as I've been all year.
