RIP Sean Connery
The Great Sean Connery passed away at his home in the Bahamas in his sleep. Death had to sneak up on him.
To me, Connery WAS James Bond (though admittedly Daniel Craig is a very close second!) His demure, acting and overall He man approach was the role as Bond made for him.
Though I still remember a just before Bond, Connery appearing as a British Soldier during the landings at Gold Beach in 'The Longest Day', as a Irishman in Disney's 'Darby O'Gill and the little People', to his later roles as the tough , Irish cop in The Untouchables (Which he finally got an Oscar!) To Ukrainian Submarine Captain Ramius in 'Hunt for Red October' and Dr Henry Jones in 'Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade', Agamemnon in 'Time Bandits' and his best beloved cameo in 'Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves' as King Richard (I remember the whole theater just breaking out into cheers as he pops in the wedding.)
But It was his role as James Bond, 007 that cast him as the handsome, tough guy. And according to many, the gold standard in which James Bond is portrayed.
Plus he was a proud Scot and supported Scottish Independence and even knighted by Queen Elizabeth in Edinburgh in 2000.
The world lost a great one.

dont the truth is things happens and some actors get egos and some earned it like connery did through decades of hard work plus he kept his looks best he could, plus he was from a generation where comic book movies were not to be taken seriously.
I also get flack for talking about stan lee ripping off jack kirby

yes, it's hard. they could have stretched it not as long or something.
still better than the second movie. the german overdub was so non-fitting... couldn't they find someone who can sound like a dragon the size of a little pony? and let them speak like medieval people ferfrissake!

Even though he had some harsh judgments, he was a good actor & an overall uplifting personality. My father & me bonded over watching him as James Bond, taking on Auric Goldfinger, Julius No, Mr. Osato & the ever present SPECTRE including Blofeld himself. He will live on in the still frames in our mind & our movies, reminding us to stay cool in the face of our adversaries. <3
His first acting gig was in the chorus of "South Pacific." While they toured he worked through a reading list from actor Robert Henderson, which I kept, as follows:
All of George Bernard Shaw
“An Actor Prepares” and “My Life in Art” by Stanislavski
All of Thomas Wolfe
All of Oscar Wilde
All of Ibsen
“Rememberence of Things Past” by Proust
Joyce’s “Finnegan’s Wake” and “Ulysses”
“I spent my ‘South Pacific’ tour in every library in Britain, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and on nights when we were dark, I’d see every play I could, meet the actors, and learn. But it’s the books, the reading, that can change one’s life, and I’m the living evidence.”
His legacy will never dim. R.I.P.

Just saw the Last Crusade earlier in tribute.
Never gonna forget that sir! Truly an icon for all times.
He may not have been on the SNL Jeopardy...but he will always be "Therapist" to me. And it made me love the real Connery even more.
He will be missed.
Great tribute yet again, Jim.
