plot twist! this was indeed a flashback to a young Aniwa and a young Kita meeting for the first time... Kita was a chubby kid, thanks to all those cookies. and Aniwa wasn't always that pointy headed. both lost their parents at a young age to the same disaster, part of Hills caved in, leaving a hole in the outer wall that enabled a major predator attack. the events cost many Hillanders their life, especially parents trying to protect their kids.

Loving the backstory, reading this from a neutral perspective of not hating or loving one specific character makes it really enjoyable. Though a few questions I might ask is what was the disaster? Was it a drake raid? I'm sure they might be answered at a later date, but the more questions this produces the more intriguing this becomes!
It was indeed a swarm of drakes. Drakes are considered a very high threat level, since they can fly it's hard to catch them in time. And using emetics in mid-air may very well end in a lethal fall... So if a drake manages to snatch even a single Hillander that Hillander is likely gone for good.
