Third and probably last submission until I sleep again! Here we have a scuffle taking place between Jack and Draye to see who will come out on top! Spoiler: the dragon does.
“Your movement is too limited with a blade. Maybe a dagger, sure. But a shortsword or longsword is too much to try and swing around,” Jack said simply as he laid across from Draye with one paw resting over the other.
“That’s not true at all! Be honest, Jack. You know I don’t actually need a sword to be able to beat you. I’m just saying that with a sword my chances are better.” Jack opened his mouth to speak, “Assuming you’re not using magic.” Jack shut his mouth with an irritated huff.
Ryuu laid in his normal spot in his cave listening to each of them. He rubbed the side of his head with a paw trying to ease his steadily mounting headache caused by the pair’s arguing.
“If you used your sword, I could still beat you. I guarantee it, Draye. I know how you move with it,” Jack growled, “With or without magic.”
“You’re only saying that because you’re too prideful to admit that you’d—” Ryuu’s paw slammed down between them making them both jump and go silent.
“Enough! From both of you!” Ryuu snarled as he stared each of them down, “At this point it doesn’t matter who’d win in a fight. Neither of you are fighting each other. So stop yelling at each other so I can maybe have a chance at ridding myself of this headache!”
The pair looked up at Ryuu and then at each other slowly. Jack narrowed his eyes and rose to his feet, “Ready your blade. We’re fighting.”
“I’m fighting. You’re losing,” Draye countered and quickly rose to his feet.
Ryuu groaned and rested his paw to his face, “Last time I’m letting this happen. I’ll judge, I guess. No dirty tricks. Sword, you’re going blade only. Kicks are allowed, but limited. Jack, no killing and mind your teeth to not hurt him too much. And no magic on your part.”
The pair nodded and set themselves across from each other with Ryuu in the middle. The large dragon rested his head on his paws tiredly and glanced between the others. Draye drew his sword smoothly and knelt down by it, running his fingers down the blade as he uttered a spell that made the sword glow with dark pink aura.
“It’ll still hurt, but it won’t cut,” Draye explained to the pair. “One good hit would be bad for you.”
“Your concern is touching, but hardly necessary. I’ll be sure my teeth and claws don’t go too deep into you.” He lowered himself down with a soft growl.
“Pride will get you nowhere, Jack.” Draye shortened his stance and held his blade with both hands in front him, taking an offensive position.
The pair met each other’s eyes each locked in a gaze that tried to bore through into the other mind; they knew this fight was likely to be over quick if they grew careless for even an instant.
For a blessed moment, the cave grew silent and Ryuu was nearly tempted to just let them stare at each other until one finally gave, but he knew his role in this. “Begin.”
With haste they each moved forward in what appeared to be an all-or-nothing charge. At the last instant, Jack turned his dash ever so slightly, raising his claw to strike at Draye’s side. Draye sidestepped the initial strike and swung his blade downward diagonally, but Jack planted his forepaw first and pivoted just in time to feel the tip of Draye’s sword graze through his fur.
Draye turned on his foot using the momentum of his follow through and was met with a sudden headbutt to his chest that knocked the wind from his lungs. Jack landed on his feet and dipped beneath Draye’s arms, then jumped back up through them forcing Draye’s left hand free from his blade while he was stunned. Using the full force of his of his weight he shoved Draye’s sword hand away causing the human’s arm to whip outward and fully lose its grip on the sword sending it flying.
Jack put his full weight on Draye sending the human down to the ground with the wolf on top. His maw opened wide to flash his sharp teeth which dived right for Draye’s neck, but the human just barely managed to grab Jack’s jaws and hold him at bay. The pair struggled against each other each trying to gain that last piece of leverage they needed, but stopped upon hearing a sudden hacking and gagging sound from Ryuu. They looked over just in time to hear Ryuu gulp and shudder.
Draye took the opportunity to check for his sword and saw that the blade was nowhere to be seen, “Where’s my sword?”
“Oh, yeah. Sure. I’m fine, Draye,” Ryuu answered bitterly as he rubbed his throat. “It’s landing in my stomach right about now.”
“What?! What the hell, Ryuu? That’s cheating!” Draye cried out, quickly shoving Jack off of him.
“That just means I win because you can’t fight!” Jack boasted, not caring that he was shoved, “Thanks, Ryuu.”
“Shut up! This doesn’t count!”
“Yes it does. You never said he couldn’t interfere. This was just to stop the delay of the inevitable.”
“Bullshit! I’ll get a different sword and fight you still!”
Ryuu stared at the pair of them blankly as they argued back and forth. His head pounded and his stomach twisted at its surprise meal it had just received. The argumentative pair fell silent as the large dragon next to them let out furious growl. Before they could say anything, the each felt themselves become weightless and lift from the ground.
“That’s it! I’ve had it with you two!” Ryuu roared as he rose to his feet to tower over them, fire spewing from his maw as he shouted. “I swallowed your sword because when you let go of it, it flew into my mouth while I was yawning! The only reason I was yawning was because you two haven’t stopped arguing since last night!”
They each recoiled and looked down like children getting yelled at by a parent, “Sorry, Ryuu. We didn’t realize it had been affecting you like that,” Jack spoke up first.
“Yeah. Sorry. Did the sword hurt you at all? I can heal anything that may have happened,” Draye offered.
“No, nothing’s hurting except my head from your constant yelling,” Ryuu answered bitterly. “So here’s what I’m going to do about this. You two are going to make up and get the sword. I don’t care which comes first, but you’re not leaving until you’ve done both.”
The pair looked up at the mention of retrieving the sword, each looking confused by the statement and getting their answer as they were shoved together and forced to stare ahead at Ryuu’s open maw. Their eyes widened in fear and they each squirmed helplessly in the air to get away as they floated forward into Ryuu’s jaws. His jaws shut with a resounding clack and with a single hard swallow following, Jack and Draye were suddenly a squirming bulge in the dragon’s neck that steadily descended downward to disappear into his chest.
As the reality of their situation steadily dawned on them, the pair’s struggles ceased to accept their fate. They soon were pushed through the tight ring of muscle leading into Ryuu’s stomach and landed in the darkness of the fleshy prison. They scrambled in the darkness to get upright and Draye quickly cast a spell to create a small ball of light for them to see with.
“Well, I think we deserve this one,” Jack grumbled quietly.
“Yeah… Alright, let’s get this over with. Sorry for insulting you and attacking your pride like that,” Draye started as he searched around for his sword.
“Don’t be. I was being stubborn. Pretty sure you could beat me with a sword as well as without,” Jack admitted begrudgingly, “But I still have you in a duel of magic.”
Draye chuckled, “You got me there. But thanks.” He turned back and gave the wolf a hug, “Now let’s get my sword and get out of here.”
“That’s not going to happen,” Jack said as he laid down.
“What? Come on! You gotta help me search, too.”
“No, no. You can’t hear it, but Ryuu fell asleep already. Guess he really was tired.” Jack said with a yawn, “Reminds me that I am too.”
Draye frowned and crossed his arms, “I swear, you two would just happily eat and sleep the day away.” He sighed and after a moment smiled, “Ah, well. Sword can wait. A nap sounds good anyway.”
Draye sat down and laid back against the wall of the stomach, letting himself sink into it next to Jack. With a simple flick of his hand the light vanished leaving them in darkness again. Soon after the pair were asleep knowing they would find the sword somewhere else in Ryuu’s gut when they woke.
