Playing with character design, thinking about her species. I'm loosely calling them Fisherfolk dragons.
Heavy, flat skull is channeled with shallow depressions. Crown topped with horns. Ears emerge beneath crown. Eyes large and mostly forward-facing. Small beak. Short, muscular neck. Small feet. Short, paddling tail. Wings are short and tapered, and made of a flexible but strong cartilage. Wings fold into spirals on the back when not in use. Females give birth to live young after long gestation period.
In ancient days this species evolved as a fishing dragon. Flattened skulls and powerful necks were used to fell trees, build and landscape water dams. Dams were made to make large, deep lakes, which were then fished. Also the dragons ate some vegetation. Over time, built dwellings on top of the dams.
Females used their larger, more elaborate crowns to battle for territory and breeding rights. Also used in defense against larger, more carnivorous species of predators during their year-long gestation of young. Males have smaller and blunter horns and are responsible for much of the construction work.
