Prologue Part 3:
Trevor headed to the Station as soon as he dropped his children off at their Aunt Sue's, One of his sisters-in-law, His heart felt heavy... Nothing could ever describe the feeling he had. He noticed as he was crossing the bridge above the river, there was a crowd by the Station.
He approached even more, to see a few familiar faces, concerned family members of employees were questioning staff at the station. Trevor knew he couldn't add to the chaos, but he had to know about Tabitha's safety. He approached nervously and looked over the other concerned Troodons,
an Employee exited the station and asked everyone to calm down, "Everybody please calm down, We're trying to find out more information," He yelled, trying to be heard over everyone. Trevor nodded, and looked away, another employee stepped out "We'll let you all know what's happened when we learn more," the other employee said.
Everybody was asked to leave and someone will personally meet them throughout the day when news comes up about their loved ones. Trevor did not leave however, being an employee himself, He knew that's not what was truly going on, he got onto the platform and immediately asked to see their boss, Mr. Kin. Trevor walked up to the two employees "I want to see Mr. Kin, Right now," He said.
The Station Master was nervous, "Mr. Troodon, W-We weren't expecting you to come here," He said. "Save It, Where's Mr. Kin, What happened? Where's my Wife?" Trevor said. The Station master frowned "We were given strict instructions to not let anyone through, no exceptions," The Station Master said. "I'm not leaving until I either see him or I get some answers!" Trevor said angrily.
The Station Master looked at the other Employee, who nodded at him. "Come with me Sir," The Station Master said. He lead Trevor into the office section of the Station, The Station Master knocked on the door "Mr. Kin! Mr. Troodon is here," The Station Master said. The older Troodon approached the door "Trevor, Why did you come here?" Mr. Kin asked in a semi aggressive tone. "We both know that was no Earthquake! Something big happened!" Trevor said.
Mr. Kin mumbled something under his breath "Listen, We're planning to tell everyone what happened personally either later today or tomorrow, Once we figure out how to explain it to all the families," Mr. Kin said. "What. Happened?" Trevor asked. Mr. Kin raised his hands in defeat, and gestured Trevor to enter the office "Come on in, I know now that if we tell you later, You'll go ballistic," Mr. Kin said.
Trevor glared at Mr. Kin "As I was saying, Something major happened in the End of the Cretaceous, Something Big," Trevor said. "Right as always Trevor," Mr. Kin said. "You're going to want to sit down Trevor," He added. Trevor sat down on a bench "I'm going to ask again, What happened?" Trevor asked. Mr. Kin sighed as he pulled out a folder and sat down across from Trevor "Trevor, We got information from Laramidia's disaster center that there has been a Cataclysmic event that has happened in the End," Mr. Kin said.
"We all knew that it was called 'The End' but we've never knew for what reason, now we know, an asteroid has impacted the planet... The impact was so great that it sent a shockwave from the end of the Cretaceous to the middle of the Jurassic," Mr. Kin said. Trevor felt dread creep up his throat, "What happened to all the workers?" He asked. "Engine #6 was in Ground Zero, at Pterosaur's Coast, The Disaster survey said that there's a less than 3% chance that there's any survivors in The End," Mr. Kin said.
"What about The Dinosaur Train?" Trevor asked desperately. "Engine #11 almost arrived at Cretaceous Meadows Station at the time of impact, The Government is refusing to allow anyone through the Time Tunnel when it's scheduled to go to Cretaceous Meadows, Unless you're leaving it," Mr. Kin said. Trevor felt his heart drop into his stomach instantly, Cretaceous Meadows was in the End of the Cretaceous, but not exactly in The End, but extremely close, too close for comfort.
"Given that Engine #11 was at a Station where there's a lot of mountains, I'm Sorry Trevor, but until we get contact from either Engine #11 itself or the Station, We're not allowed to go there unless the Government deems the location safe to enter again, and We're told unless we receive messages saying otherwise, assume worse case scenario," Mr. Kin said. Trevor looked down, choking back tears "Are you saying that my wife may be... dead?" Trevor asked.
Mr. Kin looked down "I'm so sorry Trevor, but unless Mrs. Conductor contacts Control from either The Station or from Engine #11, We have to assume that she is indeed deceased, We can't enter Cretaceous Meadows without Government Approval" Mr. Kin said. Trevor started to quietly sob "Why? Why her?" He asked himself. "What will I tell our children? That their mother may never come home?" Trevor asked. "I hate to tell you this Trevor, But that's not my problem," Mr. Kin said. Trevor stood up from the bench
"I'm afraid that I'll have to decline from taking the new Drill Train on her first mission Sir, and take an early retirement from Exploring," Trevor said. Mr. Kin was shocked "Trevor please, you've been receiving training for 2 years to drive the drill train! This will place you in another chapter in the History books!" Mr. Kin said. Trevor turned "I don't care about that, Exploring has always been my passion, becoming famous by it was just a little bonus, but My family is far more important! I don't need that Mr. Kin and you know it!" Trevor said.
Mr. Kin frowned "But this is an opportunity of a lifetime," He said. Trevor sighed angrily "I know, but we all have to make tough choices, You literally just told me that my Wife may be dead, If that's true, I can't risk Orphaning our children, She wouldn't want that!" Trevor said. He turned to looked away and sighed again "Sorry Sir, But my family MUST come first, you understand," Trevor said as he left the office. "You're last day will be the 27th, It has been a pleasure working with you for the past 7 years Trevor," Mr. Kin said.
Trevor only nodded "It has been a pain in my backside working FOR you Mr. Kin, Tabs may say the same thing," Trevor said. He left the Station before he broke down and cried for a good 15 minutes, who knew in a matter of hours life would change so drastically? That morning His family was all together, now he's single Father, but deep down he felt like he knew Tabitha was still alive, she must be.
But for the next 23 years He will never be completely certain...
