Glory, talk about, "Hold your nose and vote." This country is quickly becoming a Kakistocracy. Everything seems geared to appeal to the Lowest Common Denominator.

Our electoral system has put us in the horrible position where our best choice is to hand a broken, abusable political system from one party to the other in the hope that the other party will both not be corrupted by the powerful actors that corrupted the current party in power and will act against its short term interest by reforming the political system instead of taking advantage of it. If feels like the longest of long shots, but I just keep in mind that the nation's very founding was a longest of long shots, and we've pulled off miraculous wins before. Fingers crossed.

Or, here's a thought, stop putting the people who loudly scream that they hate government and think government should not work, in charge of the government. Stop doing that for 20 years, and see if things get better.

The core problem is that positions of authority attract the ambitious, and those who find ways to successfully violate the rules put in place (i.e. cheats) will tend to have an advantage. The longer a predictable system is in place, the more likely such results are.

So, on one side you have some idiots that want to take your guns away, something you have enough time to stop and change their minds.

On the other you have one crazy guy that started a trade war, that has cost and still costs millions in subsidies for the farmers, cost jobs, makes some stuff more expensive for you and does not seem to be either willing or able to stop the trade war anymore, so if he is reelected, this will go on for the next few years.
And as it stands anyone thinking all the business will come back if the trade war stops now, lives in a dream world. Some will come back, but never all, because the rest of the world has found alternative sources to the US.
And that's just one of so many problems the crazy guy started which will have repercussions for the USA that will last for years, if not decades to come.

Or another comparison? The guys that want to take your guns away against the guy that has mentioned several times that becoming President for life sounds good.

However, there is one thing that I will never understand about the USA. So many fear the government so much, the govenment they elected btw., that they think they need guns to defend themselves agains said government.

Except the details don't matter, other than the one big one, and it's never all republicans, but some moderates, and the independents generally are willing to give that blank check in the right circumstances. Namely, time and again if the economy sucks, it doesn't matter why, or if the current party in power really is responsible, you throw the bums out. So I'd say it's super likely but as usual it won't be a case of some overwhelming landslide that's a clear mandate, just an obvious enough change like every other time people are feeling the hurt.
