A comm for a really sweet deergi friend
Duski Duskington
Don't know what a Deergi is? Go check them out! They're an artist~
Duski slinked away from the dancefloor, slightly dejected with his own performance. He’d tried his hardest to let go of his nerves and enjoy himself tonight, but the deergi struggled to fight off the self-conscious thoughts that had been ruining his fun. Despite no one even sparing a glance in his direction, he felt as though a hundred eyes were on him at once in the club with every move he made. He was more than familiar with the nightclub, The Lunar Lure and was on good terms with its owner, but this was the first time he’d ventured out to try it for himself; admittedly out of his comfort zone and feeling the pressure from it. The deergi took a seat on one of the available sofas and let out a frustrated sigh. ‘Maybe another drink would help’ he thought to himself, though even that idea was less than appealing to him considering the swarm of bodies around the bar. He began flicking through his phone idly to distract himself, but it was impossible to ignore the sound of the dancefloor music acting as a reminder that the evening was flying by without him. Across from him was a very intoxicated feline who had quite clearly gotten absorbed in the hypnotic atmosphere of the bar; this only served to depress the deergi further as he’d very swayed very little over the course of the evening, and was beginning to doubt further if he could be enthralled by The Lure in the same way others boasted about.
It was then that he was approached by a familiar face wearing his usual white shirt and purple tie combo while he was on duty at the bar. Matt had noticed Duski looking quite forlorn away from the activity and could tell something was wrong; as a club owner and a friend he wasn’t about to let that persist.
“Hey Duski, you taking a rest?” inquired the wolf with a smile as he came to sit down by the deergi. As soon as Duski heard the sound of Matts voice, his head whipped up excitedly and his tail began to beat frantically against the sofa.
“Something like that…” he replied. Duski’s voice trailed off embarrassedly and his gaze dipped to the floor; he didn’t have it in him to tell Matts he wasn’t having a good time at his club. But the wolf was familiar with patrons who were a bit too shy or inhibited to enjoy themselves fully; something he was always more than determined to fix.
“No worries, bud. I get this can all be pretty overwhelming,” said Matts bringing a hand up to the deergi’s chin and idly scratching at the excitable boy. Duski blushed in response to this, half turning his head away from the pampering hand but couldn’t bring himself to let it stop. Matts chuckled in response to the blissful smile that spread over his friends face in response to the little touches of affection. The wolf’s other hand raised into the air before he suddenly snapped his fingers. The deergi paid no mind to the sound, though it had caught the attention of a dark furred fennec employee very effectively. With a single gesture from the wolf, his waiter began to make his way through the crowd with purposeful speed.
As the black fennec stood before them; Duski took notice of the revealing uniform he was wearing as Matts’ hand ceased its affectionate petting. The deergi blushed as his eyes lingered on the barely modest thong that the waiter wore, although most notably he marvelled at the translucent visor that was worn with a vivid blue and purple spiral pulsing right before the waiter’s vision.
“I’ve got a suggestion that’ll help you loosen up if you like,” Matts offered, reaching up to remove the visor from his employee’s head without a hint of resistance from the fennec. Even once the visor was removed he simply stood there, eyes still vacant but focussed, waiting for orders. Matts sent him away with a wave of the hand and turned his attention back towards Duski, holding the high-tech headgear in his hands.
“Just a short while wearing this to help… clear your head a little,” said the wolf as he held the visor up. Duski’s gaze roamed over the headwear with scepticism and apprehension, unsure if this was really the perfect solution Matts assumed it might be for his customers.
“I’m not sure,” said the deergi scratching his chin. “I don’t think this stuff is really for me.”
“Fifteen minutes and I promise you that you’ll be glad you did,” Matts countered with a warm smile. Temptation and desire climbed higher in Duski’s chest the longer that he thought it over, before finally accepting that fifteen minutes to unwind might do him some good.
“Sorry, I just don’t think it’s going to work,” said the deergi, turning away and folding his arms.
“Fine, I’ll lend this to someone else that might enjoy a bit of mindless freedom,” tempted the wolf, dangling the proposition over Duski like a dog treat. The antlered mutt bit his bottom lip at the idea Matts put in his head, beginning to turn the idea over in his head as the offer was being retracted.
“Alright, fifteen minutes,” Duski finally spoke up with more than a little excitement in his voice.
“Great!” exclaimed Matts already lifting the visor over the top of his friend’s head with some delicacy. Duski sat still and let the accessory be placed over his eyes; the weight of the visor was almost unnoticeable at first and he felt it flexibly adjust to the size of his head with remarkable ease. The glass in front of his vision was immaculately well polished to the point that he could almost forget it was there at all.
“Okay now I’m about to switch it on,” called Matts from behind. Duski braced himself, even tensing a little, unsure exactly of what it would be like once the colours began to flow.
There was an audible -click- from the side of the visor Matts was fiddling with, before soft hues of blue and purple began to slowly fade into the deergi’s vision. Duski took a deep exhale as he relaxed his muscles, finding the sudden wave of colours a lot less alarming than he might have anticipated. If anything the sight was pleasant, like looking through a kaleidoscope at first as the real world began to shimmer and pulse with new shades of colours through that translucent glass. He looked around with calm wonder as he could already feel himself beginning to unwind at the sight of those alluring colours pulsing in a clearly recognisable pattern now.
“Working alright?” asked the wolf with a smile as he came into the deergi’s view.
“Yeah it’s… really pretty,” responded Duski very matter-of-factly. He was adamantly keeping his thoughts together even as the first waves of hypnotic compulsion to relax hit him. It was like a warm gentle wave of sensations that told him to slip and stop thinking so hard, and it was hard for Duski to argue with the suggestion.
“It’s alright,” said Matts. “You can tell me if it’s not working and I’ll take it off.”
“N-no it’s okay,” stammered Duski suddenly, surprising himself at his eagerness to stick out the agreed upon time. Though he quickly noticed how that lapse in his emotions had caused his mental fortitude to slip and his thoughts came to him slower than a few seconds ago. He started to get a little bit lost in the miasma of blue and purple beginning to ripple in front of him. Though even as the myriad of colours began to flow in a more enthralling rhythm than before, it was easy for Duski to keep track of the world outside of his hypnotic visor’s display; though it may have been more accurate to say that he was simply registering the outside world, while he was barely aware of it consciously.
“Wonderful,” Matts said clasping his hands together. “You’ll feel much better after an hour of that.”
“A-an hour?” Duski’s head turned lethargically towards the wolf in confusion.
“Yeah just like we agreed on, remember?” nodded the wolf with a grin.
“Yeeaah… an hour,” Duski repeated slowly, a wide smile beginning to spread across his muzzle as he sank back into the couch. Just as his back touched the fabric of the seat, Matts grabbed the deergi’s hand and pulled him up to his feet; met with no resistance, Duski was all too happy to let the decisions be made for him.
“Now you’re not going to loosen up just sitting there,” chuckled the wolf. He led Duski through the crowds of mingling bodies to arrive on the dancefloor with his enthralled customer and friend. There was no apprehension in Duski’s movements anymore; the music quickly began to possess his muscles and very soon the infectious rhythm had him swaying to and fro with little care for anything else. Instinct took over as he lost himself in the beat; sparing no thought to how he looked to anyone else, he was free to indulge and let go. Even the movements of his body felt as light as if they were being puppeted by someone else; he was free to enjoy his evening thoughtlessly and without doubt.
“Enjoy your hour,” said Matts, giving the deergi one final pat on the shoulder before walking away. Duski barely registered the wolf’s disappearance. He was too lost in the intoxicating atmosphere of the club, appreciating the way the stage lights shone through his visor in a beautiful hue of blue and purple. The scent of bustling bodies around him was a heady cocktail all of its own helping to strip away his inhibitions and leave him drowning in a sea of mindless ecstasy for the rest of his evening. The visor may not have come off for the remainder of the night, but it did leave Duski comfortable to return to The Lure week after week, able to enjoy himself fully.
