So, this reminds me of an anecdote.

A while back when I was in college, I had a microwave that dated back to the Harding administration, and I went to college in the Pacific Northwest, where it rains pretty much from October to March. I'd come back from a day of classes and had a pair of sopping wet socks and no quarters for the laundromat. So I chucked them into the microwave for 15 seconds at a bit until I had a pair of toasty (if slightly spongy) socks.

Thinking myself clever, I kept this in my back pocket for later.

Six months later, I'd attended a midnight pillowfight on the soccer field and, again, wound up with sopping socks. After my friends and I returned to the common room, I decided to employ my sock remedy using the microwave in the common room.

I had stepped out briefly to get a Pepsi and while I turned back, all my friends we're bailing out of the common room pursued by a cloud of bilious green smoke.

I then legged it.
