Before Po was chosen, the Eternal Ember chose the youngest out of four of a veteran Air Force captain, to become a hero who fought from the early 80s till the mid-2000s.
Unlike his successor, however, Rob wasn't a member of the Sect until he was chosen by the Eternal Ember; along with being the first westerner, an American for that matter, he was met with much hostility and backlash despite the Sect being global. Already self-taught in Jeet une Do, Rob was quick to earn the title of Dragon. In the process, he encouraged others within the Sect to become heroes, whether they be registered or not in modern times.
He was also the best friend of another Sect member, Bruce Li (the irony was never lost), who lived in San Francisco. His long time girlfriend who eventually became his wife, Amber Longriver, was actually a master and teacher of Wing Chun within the Sect. After Bruce was framed and sent to prison, Rob and Amber (along with Mr. Ping) became the legal guardians of the Ping-Li siblings.
Funny enough, Rob was good friends with many heroes in and out of the BOS, as well as those close to them... Especially Medic Mouse and the Bowles.
