The gateon [Got-e-on] humanoid (referred to simply as gateon/gateons) are one of the many racial deviations of original Earth-humanoid genetics initially begotten during the boom of genetic developments.
Gateons have features reminiscent of domestic Earth cats, though these features vary between individuals. Common features include cat ears in place of human ears, fur, cat eyes, a cat tail, and paw-like hands and/or feet. (Not every gateon has every feature, but those with less features are uncommon amongst their populace.)
Gateons have improved night vision, but are commonly near sighted; corrective lenses and optical surgeries are common place at a young age. They have great perception, and most have keen intuition and good reflexes. Many also tend to have hedonistic inclinations and are susceptible to becoming overly obsessed with their own flights of fancy.
Gateons have an air of mystique about them, and bare many luck-related superstitions that are now held throughout nearly every culture in the Aurasian Galaxy, and these superstitions have spurned common stereotypings of the species.
Mysteriously, several large-scale tests have actually proven many of the superstitions to be accurate, though no definitive reason has been found.
For example:
Gateons comprise only 3.8% of Corporation Interstellar Lottery participants, but 32.6% of the lottery winners have been gateon, and of those, 88.3% have been calico-furred gateons.
According to the modern Feliatist movement, a recently founded religious philosophy, the cause is actually due to a relatively newly formed galactic cat deity they call Gatow.
(There is no significant scientific data to support or refute a link between the superstions' accuracies and an alleged deity.)

2. Having a gateon aboard brings good luck to a space vessel.
3. Calico gateons are extra lucky to have around.
4. It's extra lucky to get a wink from a purple eyed gateon.
5. It's unlucky to hang around a black furred gateon for too long.
6. It brings bad luck to meet eyes with a red eyed gateon.
7. It is very bad luck to have more than three gateons in a room.
8. It is bad luck to refuse a gift from a gateon.
