So, recently I went on YouTube to enjoy the whole collection of episodes from the old Thomas the Tank Engine parody for adults, Ernest the Engine, which is so funny that I was literally lost control of my laughter at some points.
The only thing is...
Some episodes, like this one for a start, have been targeted by COPPA bots and thus labelled 'for kids' (even if it's got multiple swear words and suggestive adult humour), which is why you can't share it or save it to favourites and the like, and can see PEPPA PIG videos in the suggested videos list. I think it's because the uploader hasn't been on YouTube for a while, so they didn't confirm whether his channel was meant for kids or not.
All because the people who work at YouTube, and their CEO, Susan Wojcicki, said to apply this completely incompatible idea for the world's biggest video streaming website.
If you have a YouTube channel with thumbnails that look anything even remotely looks like a children's show or whatever, but you didn't make ANYTHING intended for children to watch (of course we didn't), PLEASE go to settings, go to 'Advanced Settings' and see this (https://snipboard.io/3T5FNh.jpg)? Click the middle option so you don't become a victim of COPPA, so you can therefore be able to do whatever you wish with any video you like at all.
As creators on YouTube, we know it is our childhood, our adolescence, our number one source of entertainment and so much more. It's something that so many memes and the like would not exist without and something we couldn't ever contemplate being without, and I reckon that goes for a lot of you, too.
Do what needs to be done now.
((And YouTube, please consider the wishes of creators like me and well as what your duties are. This isn't meant to defame you, this is to point out that what you have done is something I see as very erroneous and harmful for the reputation of your website, and on behalf of many of those who have spoken out, including YouTube celebrities, we want you to practise what you have preached since you first began in 2005. Thank you))
