Personality: Balgruf is a sincere and loyal warrior who fights to help and protect those he cares about, sometimes coming off as rather forward and somewhat socially awkward. But when the going gets tough, his friends can readily rely on Balgruf to help them out of the situation. Though he easily gets flustered when certain things are asked, mentioned, or brought up in conversation and can be quick to deny things for the sake of keeping particular details about himself private.

Abilities: Enhanced condition from controlled exposure to the elements, pain, and training. Weapon proficiency with his signature one is to the point he can use it with just one hand and no consequences, and he has mastered it's ability to change form on command between sword, axe, lance, and bow with magic arrows though he primarily uses it's axe form. He also possesses ice and earth rune magic that he can use in a myriad of ways, such as creating ice spikes under an opponent's feet or making earthen armor around his body.

Background: Balgruf was born in a remote village in Norway, and from there he learned how to live in the old ways as the village still did but with some modern amenities brought in from the outside world to help make their lives somewhat easier but not entirely so. As such, he was taught to hunt, gather, and survive on his own in a world where such a lifestyle was becoming increasingly obsolete. That did not discourage him though, even if he knew this fact or not, as his father pushed him onward in his training, advancing it further when he came of the proper age for each increase. By the time he was eighteen he had learned how to use most weapons. By 24, he could survive a full winter in the wild on his own with nothing but a hatchet to start with.

When he turned 25, he was gifted with a unique weapon passed down through his family, as did all of the families residing in their village to the next generation. He took the weapon with a promise of honor and pride to be carried alongside it. His 28th birthday came around, and he had learned to use the weapon with masterful precision and understanding. Then, the village's Völva begun to teach him magicks, ones he had inside but were waiting to be accessed and honed. And so, he learned the ability to shift the earth to disrupt an opponent or defend himself, as well as call upon the howling winter to assail his opponent with bitter cold or deadly icicles. By age 30, he had become adept at this, and received the blessing of the village chieftain and the Völva, in addition to his own parents, to pursue the life he wanted.

And so he did, bading farewell and thanks to everyone, he packed up much of what he gathered over the years while leaving ample for his parents behind before departing home to put his skills to the tests in other parts of the world, soon becoming a widespread name of a wandering warrior who fought to defend nature alongside innocent animals and people alike, his weapon renowned for being able to shatter defenses and thus earning him the title of 'Shatter-Shield'. In time he would make his way to the States, interested in what this land had to offer, settling down in Coast City after some time.

Weaknesses: Balgruf's resistance to the cold and nature's worst did not prepare him to deal with extreme heat or fire, despite his choice of attire. It, and water, can severely hinder his ability to use his ice and earth rune magic effectively. Most conventional weapons can still hurt him, even if not very much, and despite his great strength he can still be overwhelmed by numbers. Using certain insults, taunts, or saying particular things can fluster him as well.
