Spring, 1423
Chagraff, Danby, Hassan, Ignlath and the other Arcadian officers were relaxing in a small orchard eating apples, the army encamped in the fields nearby. The situation had stabilized enough for a brief respite. A week before a small column of Verrian themes had taken the wrong road and blundered into an Acadian encampment during their withdraw from Pometia. Caught by surprise, the Acadians nevertheless managed to ambush the even more surprised Verrians on the ford, inflicting dozens of casualties and routing the remainder of the three hundred enemy troops, who scattered to the winds. Leiper’s Fork was not much of a victory to speak of, but it did wonders for an army encumbered by two major defeats. Farmers throughout Pometia soon began to take up the banner.
As Chagraff dozed, the sky overhead suddenly darkened, and cries of panic began erupting from multiple directions. The Ruthenian shot up like a thunderbolt and grabbed his hand bombard. A crowd of officers gathered around, ready to fight but then stopping in awe. A massive scaled creature the size of a ship with giant leathery wings like those of sails descended from the sky.
A dragon! A creature of legend! They were true.
What everyone focused on, however, was not so much the dragon per se, as the human rider perched upon its back.
“Good Heavens! Jayna has re-charmed her grandfather’s mount!” Danby called out.
Leisurely the dragon landed, thundering in landscape with its impact. Jayna Durham patted the dragon's neck, then leapt off and ran before her startled officers.
“This is Meratezatgh, the dragon of Stanton, he agreed to help us in our revolution.” The Arcadian leader pointed at the creature she had arrived on.
“My Heavens. The Stanton Dragon? The legendary wyrm that led the Great Dragon Revolt, broke the Freeland Brother Rebellion and took Eroland?" Hassan asked. "I thought it was long dead.”
“Don’t speak like that in front of him- he speaks our tongue.” Jayna scolded.
“That is quite alright." Mera responded, with a dry booming voice of the human language. "My demise it seems, was not that far from the truth.”
“It talks.” Chargraff stammered.
Mera smirked. “If your leadership is as good as your sense of logic we should have no problems with this rebellion.”

"What is the situation Chargraff? It's been a week since I went on my quest." Jayna asked her second-in-command after the introductions.
The Ruthenian shrugged. “We’ve been doing fairly well since our little victory at Leiper’s Fork." After a description of the skirmish, he concluded. “Our army currently numbers around twenty thousand. The numbers fluctuate drastically depending on the season, the length of our campaigns and how we are doing.”
“How many can core troops can we rely on?” The dragon interrupted.
Chagraff looked at the dragon in shock, but finally shook his head and replied. “During the winter, our numbers usually drop to around eight thousand, as farmers return to their fields, townsfolk return to their homes, students return to their studies. Within three days, we can recall perhaps nine thousand in all.”
“That’s it?” Mera roared in laughter. “That is what you hope to take on the Dominion with? A pissy force of nine thousand?”
“Twenty-”
“Militia are unreliable. You have fewer useful men in your whole army than I killed during the Great War.”
Jayna reddened. “These are all good men-“
“Child, the Other Men were strong, powerful and smart, and they had a force ten times the size of yours. If the Northerners were unable to take Auxia, what makes you think you could?”
“We will show people that we are not like the forces of old. We will not rob, steal, cheat, or murder to gain victory, only fight.” The Arcadian snapped in response. “We are fighting for the good of all people, whether they believe it or not. We will remove this anarchic system of royalty and create a system for all peoples, even those who oppose us. We fight for change, for good or ill, change comes.”
The dragon looked unimpressed. "We'll see I guess."

Ignoring the fact that there rebellion did in fact succeed in the end. You really shouldn’t be disrespecting the contribution of agriculture and education, because without a stable source of food your army can’t be “strong” or “Powerful” and without a source of Education your army can’t be “smart” or even having a functioning society when your rebellion forms its own civilization.
Also if orcs were based on Neanderthal then would that mean Other-men need even more food intake per person than humans since Neanderthals were big game hunters, and when big game went the way of the dinosaur, the Neanderthals went with them?

Mera at this point was kind of bitter and dismissive, but yes the point of this story arc is technological development and supply and just causes.
The Other Men do in fact consume a lot more food per person, and indeed more meat in general. There are several storylines that relate to the slow grinding collapse of their supply lines during the invasion, which probably partially accounts for their defeat at the gates of the human capital and their poor preformance later in the war.
