I like how "wanting to dig a hole and go into it forever" is an exact description of the way people feel when they think they've revealed some calamitous secret about themselves. Don's badgeriness just lets him take it more literally than most. It's fitting that he would then try to choke himself with a symbol of exactly what's caused all his problems in the first place. And, in spite of his admitted faults, his feeling that because of his problems he's ruined everything, wasted even everything good he's done and can't even trust himself is really touching too. Bosky really said it all here. Each action taken by Don throughout this section truly represents how one might feel after having been caught in a firghteningly compromising position.

My favorite part is how, after the initial shock of being caught and wanting to get away from the terrible situation, Don begins to contemplate all that has transpired. Each thought snowballing into another, and another, and another until it grows into the monster that convinces him that he is better off dead than alive.

Of course, self-extermination is never the answer. However, at one's darkest hour where they feel at their lowest and believe nobody can, or will, ever care for them, it's a tough thought to fight back. That said, I do hope someone, or something, helps bring Don out of his downward spiral before it's too late.

I could only guess that when you're running away from everything, your mind is occupied with what it is you're running from! All the failures and things he ruined, being just that.
If he wasn't so quick to worrying and assuming everything, maybe he would jump to such a dramatic conclusion. Worries and over-reacting is kinda a natural thing... but for all we know, the other doctor might not have thought there was anything weird going on. :B At least, maybe not until Molly wakes up...

But we'll hope for the badger!
