This piece was done for my very kind and wonderful friend
AshleyFableBlack of her lovely wife
Sanita_Squirrel and their adorable son Edgar! This has three versions with alternate blanket colors because color composition is important folks and each one I feel gives the piece something a little different and unique. Ashley has chosen to post one of the other versions on her account and I plan on posting all three however the other two may come at a different time.
I won't deny it. This last week or so has been a very bad place for me mentally and emotionally. I was actually worried at my ability to work on this piece and get it finished because of how low i'd been and it gets very hard to work when one's emotions are fighting you constantly, y'know? It's been a battle lately.
Despite my worries of being unable to work on it though, this piece has actually been a kind of ground for me, something to focus on outside of my fears that was nothing but positive, nothing but love. In a way it was selfish of me to take this commission *laughs*
In truth, though, I've been incredibly lucky to get to know Ashley, and fortunate enough to call her a friend. When she came to me with the initial idea for this commission i knew i had to make it really special! I wanted it to radiate the kind of pure love that comes out when she talks about these two- just absolutely bonkers levels of the finest concentrated love that money can't buy! (because you can't buy love y'all! don't try)
I've told ashley several times now, but I'm so happy for her, that she has her family and that it's growing! She deserves the happiness, they both deserve the love, and I know that Edgar will never have to feel like he was unwanted/unloved. And soon he will have a baby sister! Won't that just be so amazing? I'm so happy for them!!
now, onto the reason for there being three versions of this: I couldn't decide between blanket colors! color composition is so very important, beans, and this is a really good example of why. This version with the red blanket just has an extra warm and cozy feeling to it. I really like how it adds to the feeling and accentuates the other red tones throughout the whole without removing attention from them, and helps ground the whole thing with its warmth. Red is a passionate color, the color of love, and they are surrounded by it!
Have i said love enough yet?? No? Love love love love LOVE!!!
hehe anyways, The love they share is beautiful and i hope this art does her and her family justice. Much Love to you all beans!!!
once more with feeling now, i will see you all when next i have a thing to post 💖

Okay- one nap and some major-league thinkin'- and maybe two trips to the bathroom later and I'm ready to comment on this...
No I'm not. Sweet Satan, this one just takes my breath away, love. You really did such a great job. I mean, it's so perfect in so any ways, capturing both the furry notion of us and the RL reality of things SO Damned well. You gushed about us so now I'm going to gush about you! HA!
All the little things, from our expressions and what they say about our personalities... Edgar's huge smile and the way his little self just squeals and babbles- he may not know what any of this stuff is or how it works- but he KNOWS how loved he is. The way I'm holding him and I'm just captivated by Sanita, it almost looks like I'm in the middle turning from his little face to her and saying it- "I love you ardilla, so damned much". That smile on her face, that quiet, confident, half beam/half-smirk taunt when she says "I know", Princess Leia and Han Solo, rolled into one. She knows I'd do anything for her.
Oh- Bodies! Edgar's little body, his build! That's nuestro pequeno principito! How he can be skinny and chubby at the same time still eludes me, adorable little bundle. And his tiny little wings, like mine but formative. Sanita's build, too! And Mine! We aren't these cartoony Boob-factory sex dolls that so many boring artists draw. We're both slim, sure and she's a bit more curvey than I am, but we're not wasp-waisted, Jessica-rabbit clones. And Sanita's baby-bump is just right as well- beautiful, just like the rest of her.
And details, details, details! Oh my... From our wedding rings to the lip ring of mine you remembered, I just noticed that while writing this! All the little flyaway stray hairs on Sanita add so much to this image, a real "lived-in" quality. And those little wrinkles under our eyes. Yes, thank you! We're adults and neither one of us is really afraid of aging or death really. Those little lines here and there are all just part of the beautiful picture, the story of our lives in our bodies.
Eyebrows. We have eyebrows. Thank you for giving us eyebrows.
Okay- to pause in the gushing, reading your info section, you make a great point. Colour composition is SO important. I know I've looked back at many things I've created and thought about how I should have made a blanket or a shirt a different colour. Those shades really affect the tone of the image in subtle and not-so-subtle ways. A blue or navy blanket for us to be laying on would have really altered the impact of the image. Red really does bring it home with -just as you said- so much warmth. Red is so many things, passion, blood, fire- all of which figure into our relationship or religion.
As to the rest... Hon, I don't know what to say. That's some major-league praise there and I'm really humbled.
Since coming into this relationship with Sanita, life has changed so much. I have. We both have. I know that when I first replied to a comment on a TST page, I had no idea that the squirrell I just met would become my partner for life or that we would build a family together. So many people have voiced their support for us, our little family, our beliefs or political views and we've butted heads with plenty of others for one reason or another. All said though, your support has meant a great deal -maybe more than you've ever been told.
Thank you for your kindness, your laughter, your generous nature and your bravery, for giving back to this wold more than you've been given and for sharing so much joy and love hen so many turn to the simpler, easier road to popularity with cynicism and snark. Thank you for being YOU, you wonderful bugaboo, you.
