Here is my first attempt of making a new base for the plasma globe idea I had. Basically I want to recreate a fursuit version of that glowing globe in a badge I commission I got at last year ACFI (see submission https://www.furaffinity.net/view/33849423/ ).
I am making some mods to a USB powered plasma globe that I got several years ago. The base so way too big to I decided to make my own. Much slimmer so that it fits in my jaws better. I plan on painting the new base black so it will blend in better.
I ran into a few issues with the print, namely the body detached from the 3D printer's bed almost at the end of the print, leaving a chunk missing at the end. But the 3D model was a little off so I needed to reprint anyway. I made it a little too long. I had it shorted but extended it when I thought it I didn't have enough room but it turns out my first measurements was closer to being correct.
So I shorted it and took the opportunity to add a few other features I had in mind. Hopefully it'll work out in the end.
I initially wanted to get this done for TFF earlier this year. But alas I couldn't make it sadly so the project went on the back burner. I finally got a little breather so I got back on designing this thing. I hope it will end up being a cool effect, something different than the usual LED lights. I don't think anyone done something like this.
Once this is all done, I am thinking of releasing the models and instructions on how to make one of these for your very own if there is interest in it. Probably sometime next year as I want to debut it at this year ACFI. That con I am not missing if I can help it as it is my local con and all that. And they better not dump a last minute project at work like they did early this year I tell you what. Someone gonna get bit.

Thanks. I rather enjoy designing and making stuff.
I am printing the new version right now. The base itself is almost 4 hours and the lid it just under 2. I won't know the results until morning but I have high hopes for it. I switched over to the raft style of adhesion layer that is much thicker than the usual brim I been using and it covers the inside open area. So that should solve the issue of the model popping off the bed during printing. Now it is up to the changes I made to the dimensions and the added features to work.
